Hi Rebecca,
I moved here 4 years ago and I understand how difficult it can be to make friends, especially if your time is taken up with childcare. There is an association in Vieux Lyon called A.V.F. which is a welcoming committee for new comers to the area, it is run by french volunteers and you will meet people from all over the world there, there may be a branch near where you live but the main office is Place Baleine in Vieux Lyon. You can find info on them online. You pay a 46 euro subscription fee for the year and they have outings, wine evenings, trips and language courses on offer. They may have info on english language mother and baby groups also.
I work and my children are in school so I don't have a lot of free time, but if you need someone to talk to or a friendly face please don't hesitate to get in touch :)
Good luck
Taffy
