Relocating from UK

Post new topic

RooUK

Hi all,

I’m looking to relocate to Mauritius from the UK on a premium visa with a view to later changing to an occupation permit.

Can anybody provide any guidance on shipping household furniture from the UK vs purchasing out here?

Also re used cars, is there any way to import a used car from the UK older than 4 years old? The cost of cars in Mauritius seems extremely high, and I seem to recall seeing on a Facebook group people importing older cars but I can only see online that they can’t be older than 48 months old? Any help and tips much appreciated 1f600.svg

I am sure you have seen the rules for Premium visa.

Regarding household goods - see what is available locally and at what price. Till then you can keep your goods in storage in the UK. If you then need to bring things over - check the prices of shipping. If you are definitely going to be relocating for a long time, I would keep only the goods I definitely want to keep and get rd of the rest.

Cars -- there is good guidance on the govt website as the what sort of cars can be brought over, how to do it, and what taxes are to be paid. There are lots of hoops to jump through and you wold probably ned a broker to do it. I would bring over a car only if I could get it serviced and repaired in Mauritius. I think it would be less hassle to buy something locally, but I could be wrong.
