Short-term employment in France

Hello,

My name is Theodore and I am an American. I worked at a vineyard in Napa and the manager of the vineyard (family friend) would like me to gain experience by working at vineyards (for 30-60 days) where she has contacts at vineyards in France, (as well as Spain, Portugal, and Italy). My work would be in the hospitality side of the vineyard operation. I have been researching short-term employment in France, and it seems that even though US citizens do not need a visa for visiting France (Schengen Area) and following the 90/180 rule; I would need to follow France's visa requirement for employment. Does this sound correct?

I contacted VSF (France's outsource company for visa applications) regarding a French visa and was told that due to legal reasons, they were not allowed to give advice regarding the type of visa needed.

My question is that for my situation, I think I fall under the Salaried Employment category of short-term recruitment, and with having a fixed-term contract, I would apply for a short-stay visa since it's less than 90 days. Is this correct?

Then, additionally, before I apply for the short-stay visa, the vineyard I would be working at must first submit authorization from the French authorities and I need to submit the approved work permit with my short-stay visa application?

I feel the seasonal worker visa is not the correct type as it seems seasonal workers are issued multi-year residence permits to work six months out of the year and this is something I don't need.

I'm not certain this is correct and I'm hoping to receive some advice on the proper process for an American working in France for 30-60 days.  Thank you.
