I am american living in the netherlands and currently have an orientation visa that will end in may. Am I allowed to stay the 90 tourist days after my visa ends?

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

I think you can, but to remove all doubts it's best that you ask the Dutch Government people who deal with this; known as the IND; they have a website with contact details; this link will take you straight to it.
