Good Morning People,

Who did you guys use to ship over your furniture and electronics ?

Any idea on prices for full container loads from Jo'burg to Mauritius ?

Its easy to say - sell everything and come - but i have alot of stuff except furniture that needs to come over.

Please give some comments.

Fred

It's cost and ease rather than want

  • How much will a container cost?
  • What sort of paperwork do you need?
  • Are there going to be import taxes?
  • What about getting your stuff from port to house?
  • Do customs in the destination country make life easy, or do they mess you around?
  • The electricity is 230v / 5- hz in both, but you only have type c plugs in common. Can you change the plugs/use adaptors on other equipment?
  • Shipping time?
  • Stress

Weigh that against the cost of selling the lot and buying new.

I shipped a 40' container here from HK. Within 6 months entry, personal effects are tax free (except A/C, ceiling fans...things that must be fixed in the house). But yes, only if you have a good forwarder. The one I used is a crook. Over charging me the sea freight, local charges and delivery. Not going to use them any more in my life.

I'm going to import some more things from China next week. The sea freight is less than half when I shipped them here. And I found a good forwarder there and here. PM me if you would like to have a quotation from this forwarder here.

Hey,

We decided to ship from Cape Town to Mauritius.

On our last visit to Mauritius, we shopped around for furniture comparing prices and it was relatively more expensive.

We decided that it to be cheaper shipping selected furniture and appliances.

Mauritian electricity standards (power adapters) are equal to UK - 230V/50Hz.

The next step will be to get a reliable forwarder. We are considering Pickfords based on recommendations.

@Kodlan did you ever receive pricing? Relatives of ours were quoted one price but there were many hidden costs such as storage at destination if you get stuck in customs.

@Kodlan hi there. Did you receive costs on this? Our relatives were charged nearly double the quoted prices in hidden fees

@Pandora At Dodoland could the same company be used from the UK?

Finding a dependable and trustworthy forwarder is essential to ensuring efficient and affordable import operations. In comparison to other routes, importing products from China can in fact offer more affordable sea freight prices. It's wonderful that you have located a reliable forwarder both locally and in China. Working with a trustworthy forwarder might help you organize your import processes and even save money. Sending you a private message is the best way for anyone who wants a quote from your suggested forwarder to get in touch with you. Wishing you success with your next imports and a trouble-free voyage in your [link moderated] this time.

Sorry, I missed your message. Read it just now. The one in China is based in China. But their agent here may have contact in UK. I will PM you if they do.

Cheers!

@AM890 Thank you. And yes, another shipment just loaded. Same forwarder, same agent, same customs broker.

Perhaps I read/write Chinese, it is no problem for me to find trustworthy people in China. But here.....well my forwarder trusts them, and they have been working with each other for over a decade, so I guess they can be trusted.
