Irish man suspected of killing US nurse arrested in Hungary - @SimCityAT
Oh no. I just read the link.
Disgusting and sad.
Too bad she did not tell her friends what was going on before she went off with a nutter stranger.
People sometimes drop their guard when on holiday and really it is the time to be on guard.
Hope he serves time in a Hungarian prison, he will be so very sorry, and sore! - @Marilyn Tassy
They seem quite lenient here. I bet he'll only get 10 years for it if found to be the perp. And he won't get life. Or hard labour. Or the death sentence. I guess they'll eventually transfer him to Ireland to finish his sentence.
BTW, interestingly Norway has "life" sentences but the maximum is 21 years. I read about it when there was an appeal for Brevik who killed 69 people and injured many more. I think they are changing the law there because such a dangerous person should not be let out - ever.

Brevik, I think he is the crazy guy who killed all those young people on an Island when they were there for some sort of political camp? Politics and crazy people, just like the melt downs people are having in the US over Trump.
I know Hungarian prisons are not party, he might not make it 10 years.
Lots of wild Gypsy gangs inside.
My husband and his friend were picked up at work one day because some loose chick said they took advantage of her.
No, my husband was passed out drunk and never said two words to her.
She willingly went off with his friend and later had buyers remorse.
Made up stories.
She broke down in court and spilled the beans, told the truth.
Too late really, they had been locked up for about 2 months. My poor MIL was losing her mind, hired a lawyer and husband was told after that he could sue her and the gov.
He had enough of it all and let it slide although his friend had to be restrained from not doing her in outside the courthouse.
It was just holding for 2 months, not a real prison and it was bad.
No luxury at all,had to sit for hours each and every day and listen over and over again about the rules.
Had to use the WC in front of several other people.
prisons in countries like Norway look nicer then many flats do.
Soft on crime.
Japan, wow, the are super strict with inmates. You have to sit of the floor in one of two approved postures and not move for hours.
No talking with each other even when getting meals.
Jail only an idiot would find themselves locked up; My husband admits he was young and foolish, thought girls were nice back then but afterwards thought many were not what they appeared to be.Again is was innocent but in commie days you were guilty until proven so.

No one in the EU can have the death sentence anyway. It's banned 🚫
The EU is launching a new effort to simplify cross-border train travel. The idea is to make it possible for passengers to travel through different European countries with one single ticket.

Sometimes living is worst then death.
The daily pressure of being locked up, not knowing who is going to try and get you every day and eating terrible food will shorten their lives.
Terrible to anyone innocent but in this case it is pretty open and shut.

I don't agree with the death penalty anyway, mistakes happen. I'd rather have the person suffering locked up.

Yes indeed, it's EU wide but I think UK used to have death sentences for treason and sabotage but that may be apocryphal.

I don't either because of the chances of miscarriages of justice.
Btw, Trump's mentor Cohn was a prosecutor for the Rosenberg spies and he demanded the death sentence. And they were indeed executed. It might have some bearing on justice downstream of Trump's win.

Yup, Brevik is the guy who killed all those people. Norwegian prisons look quite nice compared to other countries. I expect people could survive there quite well for some time. There's no abuse as they don't torture prisoners. But of course Brevik, could end up being murdered by another inmate seeking revenge so I believe they keep him in solitary. No-one would be crying over his demise as he's quite clearly a very dangerous person with extreme and deadly beliefs.  Norway is civilised.
Talking of justice, I wonder what they are going to do with Trump. Looks like he's going to escape justice for many of his cases. But I want to know what will happen on his civil case for assault. He owes buckets of money for that. If I was the plaintiff, I'd want my money before he gets into office and his acolytes can twist it up. Trump could loses Mar-a-Lago or Trump Tower.  That'd be an interesting diversion.
BTW:
My MIL is once again in the hospital. It looks like we're in the final phases. She can no longer eat or open her mouth. Her breathing may be erratic Cheyne-Stokes breathing.
I've not seen this myself, I only know 2nd hand info from Mrs F as I'm not going to the hospital. Â
The docs scanned her brain and while there's no stroke, half of it is no longer working. They say they cannot do anything and the diagnosis is end-stage Parkinson's disease.
I don't see her lasting more than a few days to a couple of weeks.

Sorry to hear this, my thoughts are with you and your family. - @Cynic
Thanks.
The local nurse says she won't go past the end of the month. Sad but really, she needs to go asap. There's no quality of life. Kind of relevant due to the assisted dying bill discussions going on in the UK. Nothing like that here.
I am very surprised that the decline has been so fast. Only about 4 months ago, she could walk but now she's completely rigid and cannot do anything. Not even open her eyes. Completely unresponsive. The others in the ward say she doesn't move, doesn't speak and is not engaged at all. I think she's gone into the hospital and isn't coming back. When it happens, it will still be a shock.
If I had my marbles and was in that state, and could give consent, I'd be thinking about getting someone to drive me to Switzerland.
I am so sorry.
Mrs Fluffy must be very stressed and upset.
Not fun to see your mother looking helpless but I do believe she is not in pain and might be like my brother was while in his medical coma. He thought he was dreaming and not afraid.
Make sure Mrs Fluffy is staying hydrated and not letting herself get run down because of stress.

Thanks for those kind thoughts.
Mrs F is indeed very stressed. She cannot see the point in prolonging her Mum's suffering further. Yet of course, here, they'll be trying to keep her alive rather than making her comfortable.Â
With my Mum, she was in pain (heart failure) so they drugged her so that her passing wasn't painful. They didn't try to keep her alive as they knew she'd pass fairly soon. Took about a week.
The MIL is not getting any sleep inducing medication, she's just stuck in a rigid/frozen state. With her brain half gone, I expect she's not sure what is going on at all. With patience apparently they can get her to say some words but it seems a tremendous effort from both sides.
Maybe she'll be gone by the weekend. However, knowing life, it really lingers. It wants to continue, even if it's pointless.Â
Now Mrs F thinks she's shutting down and the dying process is underway. Whatever is happening now is a change from before.
They might discharge her back to her home as there's nothing to be done but she needs a drip to keep her going and the only one who can do that is the GP. We're sensing reluctance to come and visit each day to put a new drip on. The GP has a bit of a reputation amongst the gossipers in the village.
Anyway, we'll see. Once it's over, there's no rush to do anything. The pressure will be off.  Just a funeral to arrange. When she's gone, I reckon she'll be buried within a few days in typical HU style.
So utterly sad.
When these life changing events happen in our lives we change as well.
Not a fear but more of a overall inner sadness that never goes away.
This is an issue we all must face sooner or later but of course we all want it to happen never or at least not today or anytime soon.
If she is that far gone with no hope of getting better, you would hope they would make sure she is not in any pain at all.
Not sure how hard it is to change an IV drip but it seems best for Mrs; Fluffy mental health that a medical person does those sorts of details
My cousin took care of her bed ridden mother for over 2 years, maybe it was 3 years?
My aunt was mentally fine, just had advanced breast cancer that went to her bones.
I used to chat with her every so often on the phone but even that got to me.
She had allot of faith and her church people visited her often. She excepted she was going out.
My step father spoke with us when we visited him towards his last few months.*He knew he was leaving soon and it is not a subject most of us want to hear. Hard to know what to say in this sort of situation. Hate to say, yes we know your leaving and it is rude to brush it off too.
My auntie and step dad were given heavy pain meds which were given at home by their caregivers, my cousin and mother.
Many times I fine here in HU they hate to give out pain meds. Not sure that is. I was never even asked by my radiation oncologist if I need any or not!
My GP asked and said she would give me some if needed; I never asked but most people need something.
Even an anxiety pill is good.
Please make sure Mrs Fluffy is not over stressed by home issues and outside problems right now; I am sure she is very confused inside and may not want to show it.
I know when I was ill I tried to never let on to my husband how freaked out I was. I could see he was so upset and sad that I did not need to upset him more. I swear, there are a few months that are totally a blank to me.
The human mind has ways of shutting out bad thoughts if needed.
ATM, my friend in now Vegas is going into the hospital today to find out why she has not been able to eat for a week and has stomach pain;
I know it is because they just moved back to Vegas from the high desert home in AZ.
2 long months of packing giving things away and dealing with a stupid rude buyer.
They are still staying in a hotel till Friday Vegas time.
She has worked herself up sick.
I am hoping she is just dehydrated and needs some sleep.
Not worth upsetting yourself over things you can not change.
I pray your MIL has a smooth passing if this is the only curse left for her life.
Well of course it had to happen, done my back in again. I have no idea what I did.
I was only fixing a key safe to the wall.

I was buying one for the FIL ( he isn't in great health, so if anyone needs to get in, we don't have to piss about who has the spare key, or if the emergency services need to get in) and as it was only €4 so I got myself one, as I have a friend who often stays over if he is working late. He only works 20 mins from me, but lives a good hour away.
Also we often lock ourselves out.
I never did complete the job. Damn screws they gave, were shit. So tried to find some from our vast selection, must have pulled it bending down. Oh well.
I should have gone to the hospital yesterday, but I insisted I just need rest, a hot water bottle and I will be fine. Well it did take effort getting up this morning with a lot of pain. The hospital would have just given me an IV. Which is great for the first day, but then wears off.
I guess it's a sign of old age 😂 I'm only 50, but forget that Ive got a weak back.
Has anyone bout anything from Temu? They have a load of cheap stuff, so thought I'd give them a try. Free shipping and returns so I didn't have anything to loose. Surprisingly the stuff I ordered was pretty good.
Got some boxers shorts. Some razors, a stand for my tablet, and a mobile phone holder for the car.

We've got one of those boxes but in true Fluffy Family style, we've forgotten the code. So now I wonder how to get in it. We could go through all 10,000 codes but no-one's got the patience and we cannot get it off the wall. It's got a key in it but I don't know what the key is for.  I could chisel it out and then sit at my desk going through every code one by one. I could hand over to each member of the family and any visitors and they could do 100 each.
It seems to me if you do your back in, it never recovers. Mrs Fluffy is now complaining too. I was complaining already for some years. I think I've got sciatica due to dodgy spine muscles. It's no fun.
It's always bad for me at night. I cannot sleep well sometimes. I was moving some plant pots around this afternoon and even with precautions I know I'm going to pay for it tomorrow.  Usually I can get sleep until about 3.30-4am, then I have to sit up and do something else like read for an hour or move around a bit.  Eventually I nod off again but then I cannot get up. Really I should get up and just get on with some jobs and snooze after lunch. But if I'm doing stuff, I'll wake everyone else up.
My MIL is really not good. The nurses tell all visitors to come each day. It could be the end any day now.  I was there yesterday. She sleeps all day in her hospital bed. Mrs F was there today and she didn't wake up at all. She's got high blood pressure now which seems unusual for someone going. She's gone very white but I did not see her looking mottled - sign of the end. Urine is looking only slightly dark (catheter is in) - often an indicator of failing kidneys/organs (only one kidney works anyway). Â
I looked at the others in the ward. It was clear the woman next to the MIL is really on the way out. Intermittent breathing going on. Others look more reasonable if mostly comatose.Â
The MIL has two cats living in the garden and have been there years. I say one of them (the nicer looking one) should come here to join the existing cat and dog.  The other one seems to have a part time home somewhere else and is as ugly as sin with flat ears.
I've said we can take the transplanted cat for a vet check - chipping, neutering, vaccinations, fleas and general sorting out. The other cat isn't seen enough to consider adoption. It looks like we have to do something about them as no-one is there now. It's all a bit of the final actions as the MIL isn't coming home. I don't know how the "nice" cat will like living somewhere else - it might run away.

I'm getting stuff on AliExpress as I'm usually buying equipment rather than clothes etc. I have also been buying stuff on US Amazon. Their global shipping programme is a game changer for bringing in US only stuff to Hungary - I'm buying car parts for my hobby car. Schein is also big here and there are some other shops that have cheapie stuff. Â

Try some vitamin B3 for your back, can not hurt!
Yes, we ordered a few gadgets 3 times from Temu.
They are OK, would not order their clothing items. Husband ordered some crazy wrap around towel for getting out of the shower; Looks like it is made for a very odd ball shaped lady; Another piece of junk!
He ordered some cheapo headphones and they are fine. I am wearing some reading glasses we got from them; I am considering ordering another pair as a back up.
My MIL passed and left 2 cats;
We gave one to my husbands cousin, he does not know her very well;
Not sure how it got on with her.
The other cat was still a kitten.
We saw and add in the paper for a cat rescue; We took her there and gave the women a donation of $40 bucks.
I did not feel great leaving it there but the women seemed to love cats. Her flat was loaded with them, creepy. One reason we do not have pets any longer. Afraid they may out live us.
I am not a cat person at all. Can not take the smell of a cat box around me.
I am sorry your MIL is not going to get better and then end is close.
Nothing really one can say, just sad. live is a blip and passes by too soon.
Our FIL should really go into a home or a flat that has help on hand. He lives in a much to big house for him. He sleeps downstairs, not sure if he has even been upstairs in years, there is 2 floors. Pretty sure still goes into the basement as it's houses his tools and bits and bobs. He no longer drives so we have to do the shopping for him.
So not an ideal situation.
When the time does come he moves and downsizes, it's going to be so stressful. Sorting out everything, that goes with him, what the family wants and what's needs to be dumped. He's been in the house over 50 years.

We've got the same problem at the MIL's. It's a large house and there's are multiple rooms upstairs full of absolute junk. It will take probably a year or more to clean it all out.  It's going to need professional help as there's just not enough of us to get through it.
There's even a baby grand piano at the MIL's.  This is horrifically difficult to move as the house has steps up to it. I suggested we smash it up inside the room using sledgehammers and put it in a skip (HU: kontener). It's completely knackered and worn out and not worth anything.  I reckon there's minimum 3 large skips of crap to go.  Thousands of books too as they were Hungarian language teachers. All of it is worthless.  My FIL was a hoarder. He even has a large air raid siren he recovered from the local town hall when it was rebuilt. WTF? Why does anyone need one of those? I've got some of my FIL's tools.  We're going to be paralysed over how to dispose of it.  We've got storage in another house next door so I think we clear the storage over there and move anything that needs to be kept in there and absolutely strip the MIL's place. Mrs F is now thinking of asking a professional to come and give an opinion on what to do with it. It's either knock it down or renovate. Either one costs plenty.
If you're going to move the FIL into a home, best to start early. It can take months, even years in our experience. And of course, make sure you've got power of attorney for finance and health. Finances are a serious issue in many countries but Austria might be OK.
BTW, previously I posted that the woman next to my MIL in the hospital was exhibiting typical death related intermittent breathing. It's called Cheyne-Stokes respiration.  Well, she died during the night. That breathing is a kind of 24h thing.  It was hardly unexpected as she looked relatively bad but not terminal. Now we know for sure what that breathing is like.
My MIL is still in a kind of coma. She's completely unresponsive. They've stopped giving her liquids via a drip. I think it's days now. I think she'll just expire suddenly. We're expecting a call anytime now.  Â

I remember when my great uncle passed away, and clearing his house. It had been in the family for a few generations, where he and my grandmother had been born in. It had been a the towns bakery at one point and the towns Post Office and general store.
It was like travelling back in time every time we visited, the shop was still there, with wooden counters... The room was left just as it was back in the 1940s I guess.
We even found a car in one of the garages, no one knew it was there. If we had it would have been a nice project to restore it. I forget what it was, but it was from the 1950s. My great uncle never drove so no idea whose it was.
I spoke to my dad the other day and was going through a load of papers and he had came across a load of stuff which my uncle shouldn't have really had, so my dad is going to drive over from Wales and return them.
Good old Reg, what a character, he was the historian of town. He even wrote a few books about the town.
My dad's brother actually wanted to buy the house, but it was just to much as we had an huge inheritance bill to pay. Even if he was able to purchase it, it would have cost a huge amount of money to bring it up to date. It didn't have any electricity upstairs although there was power downstairs.
The walls were made of horsehair and Grade listed II, you would have had to have had specialists in, although my uncle was a qualified electrician and architect.
I didn't do to badly, I inherited 12 acres of farmland, which I no longer have as I was only getting a few hundred a year in rent. I could have got more, but I would have had to pay someone to maintain the hedges, and paid the water bill as it was the field connected to water, so I sold it to the farmer.

The house on the left behind the telephone box.
What a day this has turned out to be, I only posted a comment on the towns Facebook group asking for a picture of the front of the house, I now have the owner being pleased to send me the whole history of the house with pictures.

I'm working on my family tree with my niece and was on FindAGrave and asked for a photo of my ancestor's (great grandparents) grave so I could get the dates and inscription off it. Mrs F is against the cats coming over here. She says we've already got one cat and we don't need another two. I'm still suggesting just the pretty one.  I don't know what the plan is yet but they could end up being "abandoned".  I put that in quotes as we know some neighbours will feed them and they may get adopted.  I still feel sorry for them. They can live in the garden here just as well as they can live over at the MIL's place. At least here, they will be monitored and fed. There are other cats and dogs around here so it might create conflicts on territory.
I read online that introducing new cats to old cats could lead to conflicts or even fatal illnesses due to stress.  It even suggested on one web site we could hire a cat psychologist. The advice was a bit crazy expensive sounding for what are essentially semi-feral cats. Â

 Super cool house!
Such nice green lawns.
Silly me, years ago we flew into the UK in route to Hungary.
As we flew over the UK countryside I kept telling my husband it was so green; Da, The emerald Island!!
My sister lived in London for over 10 years in the late 60s to 70s. Probably was a great time back then.
She went on a holiday there and never came home!

My cousin in Conn. Sent me over a PDF file with more info on our family tree;
Bad me, I have not bothered to open it up yet!
She is really, really into it.
Our connection is our great grandmothers were sisters.
Everyone in Poland lived so close to each other that there was even allot of intermarriages between cousins.
For most of my life I had no idea what the correct name of my fathers village was or what part of Poland it was located in. US immigration botched up the spelling and it got lost with time.
12 years ago I was messing around online at the roots of our family surname.
Got contacted by this cousin through that and from then on everything was an open book. At least on my fathers side, they lived in the same area for hundreds of years, perhaps longer.
My mothers side is still a bit of a mystery. Just found out we have 8 percent African roots and only 4 percent native American although everyone sees themselves as more native, maybe because of slavery or because our great grandmother was born on a reservation? IDK. Also have roots from Asia and Arab roots. Biggest surprise was finding out we are 10 percent Norwegian. Probably from dad side; Vikings traveled into Russia and eastern Europe as well as going west. If we go deep enough we really are all bros and sisters. A few black sheep mixed in as well!
The house on the left behind the telephone box. - @SimCityAT Super cool house!Such nice green lawns.Silly me, years ago we flew into the UK in route to Hungary. As we flew over the UK countryside I kept telling my husband it was so green; Da, The emerald Island!!My sister lived in London for over 10 years in the late 60s to 70s. Probably was a great time back then. She went on a holiday there and never came home! - @Marilyn Tassy
Those lawns would be the village green. Might be common land. Graze your sheep on it for free.  Typical UK village way back was a cluster of houses around the village green. All the main services would be there like the village shop (often combined with the Post Office), the pub, butchers, greengrocers, bakery and other things. The phone box would be outside the Post Office as they were the same business for years.
UK does look very green from the plane. I remember it was striking flying in from here to there as everything looked really burnt and flat here and incredibly green there.  That's because it rains a lot. Or used to.  They say that the UK will be more like the South of France in future due to global warming. I can see there being severe water shortages there. They need to build a lot more reservoirs as the population is continuously increasing. Unlike here where it's reducing.
BTW, Emerald Isle usually refers to Ireland but the Green Isle could be taken to be the UK. Or Sceptred Isle or any other names for it.  I often call it Blighty. I don't know why it's called that. Bit 40s-60s kind of slang. I suppose I could look it up and the mystery will be solved but where's the fun in that?
I listen to talk radio (LBC) quite a lot and there are always people phoning in who are transplanted Americans. They usually say they've been in the UK 25,30, 40+ years.  They still have their US accents. I find it interesting they didn't go home. David Soul (Starsky and Hutch) came to the UK and never left and eventually became a British citizen. I saw (or rather heard) him in Jerry Springer - The Musical in London back in the 90s or 2000s. He was the narrator. Strangely enough, Jerry Springer was also a British citizen (dual national).Â
My sister had the weirdest accent when she returned from the UK;
My other sister swore she was putting it on.
Her husband was Welch and allot of their friends were Irish but she lived in London.
Used to be when we went back to Vegas to work after awhile in Hungary, customers and co workers would ask me often where I was from.
I sort of took offence since I am a born American. Could be the way I usually try to pronounce my words and not mummble about. Years of living around none native speakers has taught me it is best to speak clearly instead of having to repeat myself all the time.
I also still use a few ,Yankie words I picked up from my parents. West coast vs east coast.
I use the word like handbag instead of purse. A few other words I am not aware of using too.
I know a few times when dealing cards to people from the south or other very distictive places, I would put on an accent and say ya all or even put on airs once in awhile to entertaine myself; Some people are so boring to spend time with that you have to make yourself happy or go nuts. Nothing too over the top, did not want to come off as playing with people too much. Usually it also lead to a bigger tip!
Just finished up playing barber. Did my husbands hair and helped him; manscape a bit!
IDK, I never really enjoyed touching strangers as a cosmetologist.
Loved dealing cards, one reason was the rule, Never touch the dealer or player!
I never thought of this before but saw a video on some hairdressers stealing a persons essence by collecting their hair in a salon and doing rituals with it! Even fingernail cuttings.
I know we never did that in any salon I worked in.
I did cut a native American mans hair once.He had me sweep it all up for him and I put it in a bag so he could take it with him.
Getting way to chilly outside for our liking. IDK, need to think about a warmer place for a bit.
My former AZ friend , now a NV friend again moved in on Friday to their one bedroom condo.
So far I do not understand why they bought it.
Seems they are not happy with it at all.
2 young 30 something women playing rap music next door, the walls are not the color they want, the cabinets need to be redone and worst of all; my friend can not get into the shower! Her legs will not let her!
They did a rush job buying this place.
I am not all that wise but I did suggest they rent for 6 months and take their time finding a nice place that would work for them;
Now I have suggested they sound proof the wall before they paint.
Must be hard going from the quiet high desert with acres of land to a small condo in the city.
They were paying only $78; per month for auto insurance in the desert. Their company quoted their new rate to be $475.!! per month!!
Found another company for $275. overall I doubt they will save much moving into the city once they are done with everything.
They just left all their kitchen things, went and bought new fridge, washer dishwasher etc;. Left their furniture and bought new;
Bought a new bed which they both hate and have to return.
Just miserable. IDK, it is sad they seems to not be able to do anything right at this time;
She spent last Thursday in the ER. 4 hours waiting. She has gastritis from taking too many pain pills over the years.
It seems so easy to give advice to others but not so easy to follow your own advice.

I've read before that there are some people automatically start imitating those around them. I know that I do it and my No. 2 Fluffyette is a prime example. She starts acquiring people's accents the moment she's amongst them. I think there's a word for doing that but I cannot remember it right now. She's in Canada now so I'm expecting her to be speaking like a native by the time we manage to get in a video call.Â

I have a friend who is just like that, a couple of us used to drive to Wales and hang out with my cousins. As soon as we entered Wales Russell would start talking with a Welsh accent.

Yes, it's getting a bit cold. Snow might arrive at the weekend. Looks like my outside work will need to stop.
Sounds to me like it was a bit of a fire sale from AZ to NV.  People don't usually think what might happen if they become disabled and how their property needs to be adapted. We did think about our house but actually it wasn't for us. We thought about our parents visiting and needing to avoid the stairs. So we made sure everything was available on both floors. We even installed grab handles. My Dad was here when he was about 97 but it wasn't very good. He was out of his environment and it was hell transporting him. He was still agile enough but I could see he wanted to go home. Back to the familiar. It was a relief to get him back to his home where he had everything.Â
It could end up we need our adaptations ourselves. When the kids go, we might as well close off the upper floor and just live downstairs.

It's a bit weird but even I do it. I cannot help myself.Â
I wish I could remember what it was called. It's a known phenomenon.
Update:
Apparently it's called Mirroring or the Chameleon Effect.
My quick google highlighted something else which I hadn't thought about. It even extends to gestures and mannerisms. So it's like a physical effect as well as just vocal. Apparently it's intended (anthropologically) to show empathy to other people. I guess it's good so long as people don't think it's taking the mickey.
That's quite interesting to know.
