Advice please re: residency in France

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all keeping safe and well.

I am looking for some advice and I'm not sure whether anyone here may be able to help, or perhaps be able to point me in the right direction if not. My parents are looking to sell their home in the UK and move to France permanently (preferably before the end of the Brexit withdrawal agreement) for their retirement. Obviously, as we move into uncharted territory post-December, I wouldn't expect anyone to know what happens after that. I'm enquiring for pre-December only.

I am a 34 year old, single with no siblings or children. Our plan is to move to France as a family and I would help my parents to potentially run a holiday let during the peak season as well as being available to help care for them during their later years when the need arises. Hopefully that won't be anytime soon but as we are a very close family unit, we would like to conduct this move all together. We would be moving with healthy funds that would quite easily support us all as a household for many years. We would not be dependent on running the holiday let and it would just be a bit of a bonus if we got some occasional bookings.

I appreciate that this may be a bit of a unique situation, but I would be very interested to know whether me going with them to live may cause any issues with me applying for residency myself? My hope is that I am just classed as another adult living in the household and I would be able to provide sufficient proof of existing funds in a bank account of my own when required to. Everything I've read seems to suggest that as long as you can prove sufficient resources then that's okay, but I haven't been able to find the answer for certain.

Regarding your parents' house, you can put it on sale in our Housing section in England

Do you have an idea of where you want to live in France ? It's a country which offers a lots of possibilities depending on your way of life, or what you like !

Would you like the Pyrénées or the Alps and their lovely mountains ? The French Riviera or the oceanic feelings near the French's west Coast from Biarritz to Brest?
(I have a little something for the Pyrénées but I grew up near them so I'm biased on this )

You can also have a look in our Housing section in France to find a lovely nest for your family.

As for the other question, they will be hopefully answered by our community.

Thank you for your help navigating my way around, I really appreciate it 😊

We are looking at properties in the Dordogne and Charente. We have been coming to France for around 15 years so potentially moving there would be a dream come true for all of us. Although I do plan to brush up on my lingo because I personally am a little rusty 😜

I would love to visit the Pyrénées and it's very much on my list because it looks beautiful.

From what I've read, you should be fine living as an adult at your parents' place. Everyone would get their own carte de séjour, using the online application coming in July. You would need to show financial resources (smic net).
