DN visa in Bulgaria

Hey,

I want to apply for the DN visa in January.

I'm trying to figure out - as a freelancer I don't always have contract with those I work with (most of my income is with a company which we have no contract), is it ok to not show contract?

My receipts for my clients are not in English? Do I need to translate them to English formally? I have multiple income sources apart from the bank, is it ok?

Do I have to show accommodation when applying to the D visa from outside Bulgaria?

What to show as the reason for wanting the visa in the form when I first apply?

And please - can someone help me understand what do I need to have for the first application for the D visa and what for the second application? Or is it exactly the same apart from the official document?

Mike, the requirements for the digital nomad visa should be on the embassy or consulate website in Israel, but if not, here's the list on the UK Embassy website. For a freelancer with multiple income sources all earned online,t he digital nomad type C may be the one you need. You will need proof of residence in Bulgaria, a clean criminal record check from your country of residence, compulsory health insurance, proof of meeting the earnings requirement in the previous year, and if you have earnings from multiple sources you do need to have at least one contract. All the requirements are listed on the website.

If you can show you earned over 27,550 euros from your main employer in 2025 and can get them to provide some sort of contract that should be good enough. I don't think it necessarily needs to guarantee a specific income, just that you are still employed by them on a freelance basis.

I'm about to apply for the digital nomad visa in London, and I would rate my chances as 50/50, because like you my income comes from multiple sources and I don't have a single one that paid enough in 2025 so I need to cobble together a patchwork of earnings.

I'm not sure what you mean by first and second application. Do you mean applying first for the D visa in your country of residence, and then applying for one year residency in Bulgaria? If so, you just take all the same paperwork and your passport with the D visa stamped in it to the regional immigration office for where you'll be living in Bulgaria. If you mean extending for a second year, I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's probably taking all the same paperwork back to the local immigration office before your residency card expires.

As far as I know, there isn't anyone here who has applied under this category yet as it's quite new, so I haven't been able to talk to anyone with real-life experience applying for it.
