Timelines Card A and card L renewal

Hey expats ,

Wanted to share my current timelines - applied simultaneously for renewal of A card (UNlimited access to labour market ) and card L ( 5 years work) on 12th Feb.

A card renewal is taking a long time - anyone experiencing something similar ?

The processing of A card should not take much time. 4 weeks are enough to get a decision on it. Check with your commune on the status update.

@ARMaliq

Should but could not usually...My A card was longer then L !

@ievgenfeldmann

  Wow ! How long did your L card take ?

@DaryaSh

2 month

@ievgenfeldmann

Oh wow , that’s super fast ! I thought it’s 5 months normally ?

Every case is different, and remember they have other cases to deal with not just yours.

Update : called the foreigners office and they were useless and incredibly rude 😂🥲 still no news

Final update : got my L card today 😂🙌 1 month and 2 weeks in total

@DaryaSh

CONGRATS how did you do that ? Any tips and tricks to waiting ones most welcomes smile.png

Thanks ! I was surprised by how quick it was too! Maybe because my case is simple - 5 years work for a Belgian employer

@DaryaSh

Mine is the same 😸 I wonder apart from that you did something else?

@DaryaSh

Hello, same situation here. I have applied for the renewal of my wife's and son's A cards, and also for the L card. It has been over a month, but we haven’t received any response from the Evere commune. Do you think we will receive the A card first or directly the L card? They only gave me a copy of the 16bis document, but no other proof showing that I applied for the renewal for A card.

If a person applied for L card its taking more than 1 month that's for sure.

End of the 5 months + 1 day with a positive decision , person will receive respective card.

If another  person applied for an A card, this can be faster.

If person applied in same time A and L , in positive decision of L card, A card  will be rejected.

Good luck.

Hello thanks for the reply,

Our A card will expire in 20 days and no reply from commune, there is no appointment available to visit there.

I feel your pain.

In case of an ID needed for an official process , you can ask an Bijlage-49 Annexe-49 from your commune. (not an ID and travelling document)

National Number  is written on that document and no ID needed for official processes.

Good luck and patience.
