Family reunion on unemployment benefits

Hi all,


The applicants (host) is unemployed at the moment and receives benefits.


Is it possible to apply for family reunion with unemployment benefit income ?

Yes, it is possible to apply for family reunification even if the host is currently unemployed and receiving benefits, IF they can also demonstrate that they are actively seeking employment. This can be proven through documents such as certificates from VDAB (the employment agency), official job application rejections, and similar evidence.


However, please note that the minimum required income currently stands at €2,090 net per month.


Also be aware that the Immigration Office (DVZ) assesses income both retrospectively and prospectively. This means they will king of "look into the future" to evaluate whether the reference person can realistically support a dependent over the long term.


So I advise you first to evaluate the situation comprehensively and consider how it might look from DVZ’s perspective—would you grant a residence permit in such circumstances?
