How are we informed if an application is delayed/rejected

BMM996210

Hi,

Just to have an understanding. Does anyone know/experienced a rejection/pending status for their L card.

After how many days/months was this communicated to you?.

Reason: I would be completing my 5 months period after the L card application and have an appointment for 5 month+1 day. Wanted to clear out if any last minute confusion can happen when I go for the appointment to pay for the L card.

I am interested in getting an answer to the same question as well.  Still awaiting a decision on L card.

You can only wait till day 5+1 and without any response then apply for L card.

@Guestposter851 Hi,

its something new that is happening. I have friends with the same issue.

Hey ! Any answer to this question? how is the rejection notified? via emial? standard mail? or when we go to the city hall after the 5 months?

Mia0210

@Diegote22

The decision always comes to your commune first. After that, it depends on the notification method chosen by the commune.

I lived in two different communes, so I can only share my experience.

In the first commune, I received a rejection. I found out about it immediately because I went there on the last day of the application review period. Otherwise, they would have contacted me. When I applied again, the decision came after 4.5 months, and I received a regular paper letter by mail with the approval notice.

Then I moved to the other commune, applied for nationality. When it was approved, they called me by phone, even though I was expecting a letter or an email.

So it really depends on the notification method used by the specific commune.

@Tomkar

@Diegote22 I’m also waiting for a decision for my L card. I think the best way to know if a decision has been made is to regularly call « Office des étrangers ». I call them every 3 weeks now, to see if a decision has been made. Also check the activities on your « mon dossier » to see who checked your national register. Could you share yours ? Mine :

  1. Application date : 5th december 2025
  2. Commune : Ukkel

office des étrangers checked my national register on :

  1. 17th December
  2. 9th January
  3. 16th January
  4. 17th January

And I called them last week, and they told me that they are still examining my application.

Hi Tomkar, thank you so much for sharing your experience. How do you see if someone has checked your national register? Maybe in the mondossier site (and if so, where do you see this)?
