Closing out a DR bank account

Hi all,

I have left the DR permanently and I need to close my Banco Santa Cruz savings account. Apparently I have to empty it completely ("ni un solo peso") before I can do that. It has <US$100 in it currently. I'll withdraw what I can via ATM card, but I can't think how to get rid of those last few pesos. I have Remitly but you can't use that to send *from* a DR bank. I'd happily give it to a DR charity if I could figure out how.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to zero out this account without being physically present in the DR?

If you find a worthy charity, simply do a bank transfer for the remaining amount. Should take care of your needs?

That's a great idea!

Not sure if this applies to all banks in the Dominican Republic, but Banreservas and Scotiabank require you submit request to close account in person if you don't they just consider it a low or zero balance and keep tacking on fees. Check with your bank and make sure this doesn't apply to them.
