Yes it is confusing. I've learnt something here. I always have referred to Burgos by that name only but I would like to add for the record that there are some excellent eating establishments both on Burgos 'street' and nearby in the greater poblacion area. It would be a shame for readers to be put off visiting the so called 'red light' district for this reason. For example you have the Filling Station eatery which is an absolute must go to place and Café Cubana virtually next door on street level which serves excellent Italian coffee.
If you go down one of the side streets called Durban, near the end there is one of the best salsa themed restaurant bars in the whole of Manila namely Alchemy Bistro Bar. There are absolutely no hookers in sight: good food and a pulsating salsa score most nights where many professional Manilians frequent.
emvaningen
Totally agree.

I bit further beyond Kalyaan there is a lot of renovation. Several boutique type establishments are being built too.

@Lotus Eater

Alchemy Bar and The Filling Station are by far, two of the best offerings in that area.

I miss how frequent i would go to either of those establishments nearly every week for lunch, dinner, or just a coffee.  Alas,  the pandemic has really changed the vibrancy and energy of that area and just in recent months getting back on its feet again.  Now i am lucky if ever i am in that area once a month.

I like the Filling Station. Recently I was at the Filling Station and a week later I had a chance to dine at T.G.I.F  near Eastwood Mall. While I was not a fan of them back in the states. I would not have chose T.G.I.F at Eastwood but my stepson visiting from England chose the restaurant, wanting to please me.

Well they had the best Burger I've had in the Philippines, much better than the Filling Station. The Filling Station is worth the visit because many on this forum lived the "retro" atmosphere that the Filling Station represents.
kristopherryanwatson
@Enzyte Bob

Ah yup. The decor environment is like no other of any restaurant i've ever been to in Manila. It's truly one of a kind. love the vintage 50's/60's vibe there. My favorite from the menu is the grilled chicken pesto sandwich steak sandwich with rustic potato wedges.  they've got great shakes too.  Oh, and who can't appreciate the uniform of the waitresses. incredibly adorable.  and very accommodating when it isn't too busy.

Alchemy Bistro is a fine place just as well with the darker-themed ambiance. my favorite there would be the steak sandwich with sweet potato wedges.

for Mexican food, A'toda madre is fantastic. which is just around the corner of The Filling Station and down the street across from Durban Hotel.

If you're a burger guy like me though,  i'd recommend Raging Bull Burgers in BGC. best i've ever had. its definitely my go to for a great Burger.

@Lotus Eater haha . What's interesting is when you see a forienger who is married to a pinay  and maybe they have a kid . Then later she has to visit her "sick" mom often and weeks at a time . Later she comes home briefly and again shortly after announces she is pregnant .
( True story of a province girl here) then when you see the baby ,one look , its100% pinoy .
Pinay have a good disposition .are friendly in general , happy go lucky and none of them are gullible innocent or unaware of what foriengers are up too .
And like you said these guys who keep " visiting " the Philippines again and again are doing what while they are here ?
        Going to prayer meetings ?
thedfords
@foveres

I find it humorous all these guys trying to shame you on enjoying your time in the Philippines.  You clearly said you were enjoying the girls in the bars and nightclubs.  Any guy that has spent time in the Philippines knows that's where the one nighters take place and there's no naivety in these venues.  Now if you were poaching local girls and doing the pump and dump that would be a different story and you would be labeled a playboy very quickly and things would dry up very quickly.  My advice would be to have your fun and when your ready for an ltr, change your strategy and go for those sweet loving girls the would stay by your side.  Btw it doesn't matter what kind of girl it is or where she's located.  If you're out of money you will be out of girls.  It should be a symbiotic relationship as opposed to a parasitic relationship.  No matter what, men are always expected to generate the income.  Have fun!!!!

Well.  Not odd if they dont want to be the provider to the man too - although many Filipinas are.

Not odd the good ones too want enough to not need to worry about affording the basics, but there are many who arent that bad as many say - I claim it depend of many men are bad at chosing woman, "thinking with wrong head"   :)

Although I dress as a poor (thai style) farmer mostly and have spend almost nothing at women, I have queue anyway 1f923.svg  Some of them are even from rather rich (upper middle class) families. E g in one they had spenmd a half million in a Filipino-Filipino marriage!  (Which I would have used as argument if they would have asked me to pay all support  :)      I suppouse a factor is I treat them with respect undepending of which status they have.  Some have kept contact many years even after I have told them we cant suit as a couple, so I suppouse they like to talk with me WITHOUT geting any money nor things.   (But to tell the truth some fewer "in queue" since I passed 60yo, but many say "Age is just a number". Even a 10yo daughter asked me to marry her a bit over 30yo mother...)

Most of them have NEVER asked me for anything costing money. Some are proud so they prefer to struggle trying to manage themselves before asking for assistance.  E g one kicked out the (Filipino) father of her daughter,  was broke but with just a business idea and determination she managed to start a profitable production business.  Instead of asking me she took a 5-6 loan to get money to raw material to get possibility to start. Before that she had made a sample and had got order even before she had any to sell 1f44d.svg1f44d.svg1f44d.svg  She managed to make deal with a tailor to use his machine at hours he didnt, and after a few months she had even reached started saving, thinking of geting a second machine and employ!   (The only she asked me for was some advice about how/where to exband to more than she had done by herself. (I adviced her to NOT sell to any more retailer in same city than the one who bought all her production so far allready, but get retailers in some other cities.)
An other is from a middle class family, who own the main store and around half of the farmlanmd around the village. She had some assets from savings from office employment and had started a small business as extra income by herself, but called me and was sad and told she had lost similar to 3 months earning by customers hadnt paid for what they had got and had disapeared.  She was allready good at finding opportunities, but bad at judging risks. I just asked her a question to give her hint how to think how to judge which customers are to risky - which she answered correct and understood my point - plus a gave her a hint of which customer types to chose instead. Since then her side income business improved so much so she quit her employment and she earned enough by working only 2 - 4 days per month plus when she looked for new projects! Once she talked with me at Tuesday being at one island visiting some friends, told she would be home Wednesday at an other island to work.  Sunday she called. Then she had been at as third island (where she is from originaly) and told she had bought an orchard and had got it financed by bank löan allready!  She had agreement allready with a relative - with experience of such - to split profit 50-50. She had figuered out in 10 years she would own that fully without paying anything by all financedf by the income.)  (Then Covid screwed up some of her other projects by they were retail.) She has foreign boyfriend but if my injury get solved and she get to tired of he go on not asking her to marry him, then I will ask her  :)

So there are good ones too...

@kristopherryanwatson What is Manila actually like regarding sightseeing? I have never really explored the city, just stayed in Makati or Pasay overnight before flying onwards. I assume that like most other cities there are plenty of organised city tours, maybe a hop on hop off open top bus tour with commentary in different languages, maybe a dinner/cruise on the river tour and maybe small private walking tours.

Would you say it is worth the effort for me to spend a few days in Manila to explore and maybe take an organised tour to see the sights?

and nice men too who chose wrong women.
I have had queue 1f923.svg since start around 10 years ago without spending (almost) anything...
(Some shorter since I got to know and told them incompetent doctors dont solve my sports injury so I cant travel   (by it would get to much worse if I would travel anyway and no point being there if I get so much worse so I cant move and have much more pain.)

I know several good ones but I dont give contact info, because I want to keep chance open :)   if I ever get my injury solved.
E g my first ex is very good but she understand I dont like to support her family in parts she say too very lazy and even some huligans living together with the few good ones so the bad ones would sneak advantage if I would support the very poor good ones.  (But perhaps they would split if the exhausded mother die.) She is one of the few exceptions in that family, she even got scholarship by hard study and cleverness* but had to quit school allready as 13yo to start working to try to assist family to survive. She is second eldest of the 12 sibblings.)

*She even managed to figuere out by herself a percent counting, only knowing 1 % = 1/100. Not even a Business MASTER examed couldnt!!! But Business Master examed are suppouse to know such recounting  :)   to year interest of common loans.

Btw Philippine school system is some odd. Very few Filipinos know the much needed how percent is counted, not even some teachers and TESDA tester!!!
But on the other hand Filipino school have math tasks to a 6 yo about counting average!!! (I believe 10-12 yo learn such in Sweden.)
And some other extreemly hard tasks for the age too.

@coach53 my wife would quote that prhase and laugh .
It's been around a long time and coined by a woman .
It's natural for woman to want a man to have a income to provide and when the money runs out and looks bad for the future many will bail .
Just a fact of life it seems .
There is a guy here on this island (forienger) who our friend found wondering around  homeless .
.he apparently ran out of money at his older resort and his long long time wife kicked him out .
Woman can flip that " I love you switch" faster than a lighting strike.
Woman are emotionaly the same every where but with different cultures im my opinion .
It's always a buyer beware situation when it comes to money .

Well. Not odd if a woman dont want to stay with a dead beat, who dont provide anything.
BUT its a huge difference between
/gold diggers, who arent interested if they dont get posh gifts. Many have sorted away themselves by I dont give them any   :)
/and women, who stay if there is enough to not need to worry to afford the basics...
Some stay even with less. E g one back then under 30yo Filipina stayed with an old foreigner when he had problem with geting his - rather small - retirement pay so he got out of money, so SHE supported him at her small common Filipino salary.

@Cherryann01

Yes!  there are a few things worth seeing...such as Food tripping in Old Chinatown in Binondo (regarded as the oldest ChinaTown in the world!), and the Philippine National Museum..and then are more commercial attractions such as the boardwalk down by MOA, or, if you really want to see it, the horrible eyesore that is the Dolomite beach down by the Bay...yuck.

Certainly the Intramuros would be worth seeing - The Historic walled City.
https://guidetothephilippines.ph/articles/ultimate-guides/intramuros-manila-travel-guide

Also, Okada Hotel offers some lovely attractions and accommodations you can visit. the Hotel itself is quite the marvel.

a stay for 2-3 days would definitely be ample time for you to see what much of the city has to offer. i'm not sure of any organized tours for modern Manila though,  I would think for other worthy locations within Old Manila there should be ( i took a tour of Intramuros back in 2013 actually - it was quite nice).

I hope that this does help!

Dont you know Sweden is famous for beautiful women?  So no need to go anywhere special...  :)

One of my teammates back when I played REAL football  - not the American, which is almost all handball  so its a backwards name  :)   -  married Yvonne Ryding, who became Miss Uniiverse back when Swedish beauties bothered about it.  During the 1990-ties Miss Sweden became a parody by most Swedish beauties found beauty contests silly and skiped participating, so some years it was wonn by Swedish women looking BELOW Swedish average, before it closed...  (Later a swimsuit company tried to restart it but few Swedes bother about it.)

(And a big percentage of James Bond beauties are Swedish.)
Cherryann01
@kristopherryanwatson Thank you for the information, the walled city sounds interesting and looks worth exploring. I think I saw a short video a while back about Dolomite beach and I think you are correct, probably not worth bothering with that. When I watched the video there seemed to be mixed reviews from the locals at creating an artificial beach in Manila.

Sounds like I could manage to explore on my own without the need for an organised tour anyway.

Well. E g one of exes was an extreem beauty but she didnt bother about it. I suppouse her look assisted making the Swedish Olympic committe  :)   which decide who they send to the games,  to let the sport she coached go inspite of not fullfil the harder criterias that committe have than the competition organicers.  She was extreem feminist but fair in difference from the feminists, who want to get equality about parts women have disadvantage but keep the advantages women have.  So she was so extreem so she didnt accept I bought her a soda when I bought one to myself - until I reminded her I had finnished the bread loaf she had planned to have for breakfast   :)
An other - not realy an ex by I said No Thanks to her invitation by she didnt suit to my serious side.. She was tough but never had feminist discussions.  Not many others would have said No thank to her by she looked as a young Dolly Parton  - the head  :)

Actualy I have documents proving I am funny, so there you screwed up again...  1f923.svg
E g
/TV PAID me to be in a TV program after they had seen a funny thing I had done  :D
/I didnt wonn but got one of the prices in a writing contest for the whole county by one of my funny essays.  Same style as a teacher booooring as you gave me below average grade for, but the teachers the year after found same style fantastic... Perhaps that contributed too to I got an assignment for the region newspaper.
/When I started leading a sport club from bottom and aimed at making a huge youth section to get players to the senior team in the future, we tried to get time in local radio to get free marketing.  They said No many times but a techician there, who played in the club too,  went on asking them until they gave up  :)  and let me come for an interview.  Then I had prepared how to speak how journalists like interviewed speak, so I said several "Headliners". After that THEY asked me to come to new interviews now and then...   It was then I started saying controversial things people "love or hate".  Before that I had only "spoke" by results. There was a star club in that city allready. They wondered how come our low league club got much more attention than them in media  1f923.svg  (But after a few years we had passed them. Our C team is similar to their A team now.)

"In any case why would they be interested in a boring old fart like you."
Speak for yourself  :D
I have got 4 serious invitations from 23 - 35 yo SWEDISH women  - have lost count of Filipinas - just since I got injuried meeting much fewer than when I went to dances before the injury, when I got invitations almost all evenings - which I said "No thanks" to almost allways.  One of these serious invitations was from a daughter to what would be similar to "governor" in with counties with such, who asked if we could be a couple.  (In difference from the other three, I knew her since before I got injuried. We were a couple in DANCE competions back when she was teenager and I close to 40.)
Recently one around 35 yo woman, one of them who assist me some with cleaning and such because I am injuried, got supriced when I told I am close to 70. She thought I were under 50. Its in the genes. One guard wanted to see ID at I were over 20 when I were 33, so I did beat my father, who they asked when he was 28. And my photomodel sister got asked if she was under 13 (child ticket) when she was 23 and had two kids  1f923.svg     No one thought I were in wrong place by my look, when I went to "youth dances" =15 (18) - 30 yo before the injury. Several of the upper part of the age women even wondered why this young boy = me asked them to dance  1f923.svg

So there your BS failed again...  :D

So of course I have never compeeted in any beauty contest, not even visited any because I am against such superficial. Its risk that can be a conflict if I get kids in Phils, because I dont want kids to be in such crap.

But as kid I got asked to be a photo model, because of my patience. I did the booring mass catalogs photografing and such, while my sister got the posh jobs   :)

Present your facts, only in your mind.
- @Enzyte Bob

Says the SECOND placed at BS posting    :)

I have told the facts allready. To prove it I would need to tell my identity, which I off course dont tell to BS posters. Thats why I dont even tell which sport I did lead two clubs from bottom to Swedish elite in, because that would make it to easy to identlfy me, because I am national famous as leader in that sport,  reached by my much laught at exersise methods  - until they saw the results...     :)

An idiot saw a part of my CV including years done it, and he told his conclusion I have to be 200 yo to have done all that, by he didnt understand several things can be done parallell!! 1f923.svg1f923.svg1f923.svg
(Some of the BS posts here are not far from that idiot level...)

During the most intense period at SAME years I:
1. Handled my own 70  (115) employees business
2. solved a crisis in "my" region for a competitor, who is national, but I merged the handlings so it became as one full time total.
3. Had a half time night work at a hotel. This was back when satelite TV started but was hard and expensive to get, so I got paid to be at that hotel inspite of it was almost nothing to do so I looked at satelite TV or did some work I brought as e g count salaries in the p1/2 businesses.
4. Worked often more than half time as club leader, reached second best in Sweden.
5. Had assignment for the county newspaper to write about the all clubs in that county.  Main results was about my own club, so it wasnt much more than I would have wanted to write anyway   :)
6. Handled region office for three counties cooperating federation in that sport.  Similar there.  A big part I would have done about the own club anyway. As most we had 9 teams in the SENIOR league system, although most of our players were kids, which I gave exerrsises at playing at senior level.
7. Plus I compeeted myself in dance and a bunch of sports.

I counted active hours a week. 107 hours plus I had time to go to a icehockey game and a private party I had promised to go to and assist cleaning afterwards so that became 10 hours.  While others get exhausted after 40 hours, so not odd such dead beats have problem to understand I have done much...  :D
It was some remarkable many employees didnt manage to be trainers for their kids teams, while two CEOs in stock ,market companies did it, one of them in a international famous company so its some funny I have had him UNDER my leadership   :)

A part of the explaination to I have had time to do much though is I have no kids. So it can be time to do that now after I become semi-retired   :)

@coach53 dead beat ? The guy bought the property  and paid to have the  resort  bulit .
She tossed her husband out like a dirty rag instead of caring for him like a decent person would have
Really disgusting what she did .
Strangers came to his rescue
The first time I saw him .Mr dead beat was head first in a washing machine repairing it .
At the time it was the only place to get your laundry done.
