Things are a world apart from US law.

Excepting inheritance, everything should get split 50/50 unless you mutually agree otherwise.

Draft an agreement that shows you as looking after the kids, then work out your best deal.

The law here tends to favour the mother and children.

Can anyone recommend a good divorce lawyer in Jakarta?  Anywhere in Jakarta is fine but preferably one with experience with expats.

The lawyer who usually handles foreigners as far as I know is Mr. Hotman Paris.

But according to information the pay is very expensive, unless you are someone who is not financially capable.  You can meet him in the morning at a cafe called Kopi Johny.  Mr. Hotman will help you for free.  With that note, for people who are financially incapable & in a state of innocence who need justice.

Btw my brother's friend is also a lawyer, more precisely 1 of my neighbors.  But I don't know whether he has experience in dealing with foreigners or not.  If you want, I can ask him.

I'm sorry, maybe you should read my text again.  I said according to the information i get it they cost is expensive & I don't know why?  Maybe you can ask them directly.  As far as I know, Mr. Hotman Paris is 1 of the most famous lawyers in Indonesia.  He wins almost all the cases he handles.  Please check the Indonesian local news.  I'm just conveying information.  Not their intermediaries or brokers.

Divorce is easy.

Getting divorced without being fleeced, not so much.

After that, it's visas you have to worry about if you intend to remain in Indonesia.

Assuming laws haven't changed and my memory works, you can still get a KITAS if you have been married for over 10 years.

Joint property is generally split 50/50, but any inheritances you have are yours. Same for her.

Kids normally stay with her, but that isn't absolute.

You can make a deal with any lawyer, not just very expensive famous ones, that buys her out and is final.

I made my own contract that pretty much dumped her and, as she was stupid and her lawyer showed incompetence on an epic scale, she signed it with a materai so that was that.

All is not lost.

You have an obligation, both legal and moral, to ensure kids are looked after.

As for her, you work it out.

The questions are:

Do you have kids together?

Do you have property?

Do you want to stay in this country?
