Bank acc (hsbc) opened with KITA* stays active after visa expiry?

nsorbitol

Is this information correct please? It will remain active? The bank is HSBC Indonesia.

"If a bank account is opened in Indonesia with a KITAS/KITAP (Indonesian residence permit), it will not be automatically closed when the visa expires. The account remains active until formally closed by the account holder. To close the account, the account holder needs to visit a bank branch and complete the necessary procedures."

Thank you

You should contact the bank before the KITAS expires.

A valid KITAS is amongst the requirements to legally hold a normal account here.

I'm not a banker but I do have an HSBC account here. You need a Kitas or Kitap to open a bank account in Indonesia but once it's opened I very much doubt it will be closed if your Kitas expires. For example, a Kitas expires after one year, but I am pretty sure your bank will never contact you again asking for a new Kitas, they have never contacted me. However, I cannot speak for your situation if you change your address to a country outside of Indonesia.

As for HSBC Indonesia, they are generally very easy going and they have never asked me to give them an updated Kitas in the past 10 years. But then, my address has always been in Indonesia. HSBC are  very international, I have an HSBC account in the UK with my registered address in Indonesia and an HSBC account in Malaysia with my address in Indonesia. Indonesia is a bit different because you must have a Kitas to open an account but you'd have to speak to them directly to confirm one hundred percent whether your account would be closed. If your address and telephone number changes to one outside Indonesia that might make a difference, but I doubt it.
