No snow here yet

Fred

https://jakartaglobe.id/news/bmkg-warns … d-holidays

Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of potential extreme weather during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays due to a Siberian cold surge. The phenomenon could trigger heavy rainfall and hydrometeorological disasters, including flooding, particularly in western Indonesia.

A Siberian cold surge - I'm buying snow chains

Well, maybe not snow, but it seems a lot of rain might be in the offing. Perhaps avoiding parts of Jakarta will be in order if it comes down.

Hey Fred, how are you?

Our youngest son, Komang just returned from a year of work/study at the Stratford Inn in Vermont, USA.

Now back in Bali, he makes daily offerings for snow as he took to skiing like he's been at it all his life.

Add to that the fact that while there, he became the Inn's head chef for making pizzas...a Balinese!

I'm beginning to think that this is what globalization really means.

Cheers, mate!

Fred

Feeling good, but stressed.

I've been offered a new job with an old employer. Money is the same but the area is better and the workload is far lower.

How's life over there?

Still  no snow in Jakarta, but the mother in law's place in Depok had a hailstorm a few weeks ago.

Seriously, they did.

Life for us is pretty hectic.  Our second son Rama is getting married later this month and the number and frequencies of ceremonies associated with Balinese weddings is mind blowing.  His bride to be is wonderful and already a dearly loved member of our family.

Good to hear that things are good for you.

Stay well mate, and cheers!😀

Fred

Congrats to your son.

I earned my Amateur Radio license last year but I've been too busy to do much. I managed to get a few aerials up, so I can do a little.

I've only worked 7 countries so far, but as far away as Israel, The UK, Russia, and Japan.

It's an old hobby I played a lot with in the old country, and one I'd like to re-equip properly for.

Too bad your son is settling for a rubbish American Education..

Ubudian

The fact is, the US is home to some of the finest universities in the world and as you're an American, I'm surprised to read what I regard as a rather ignorant comment.  😏

He's trying to cross thread troll me. It's a bit dim of him. but that's life.

Thanks, Fred.  😁

Fred you made a couple of 'dim' statements on the Philippines Forum which Ubudian was unaware of:

For the record I have copied and pasted them (9th December '24)

“I agree. Get an education, even a rubbish American one, or invade someone's country and commit rapes and mass murders.”

“The US is around 12 to 15 places down most lists of countries with the best educational systems (unless you go to a US site where it's first every time)”

Ubudian

Not to jump to Fred's defense and not following the Philippines Forum, I can understand or at least appreciate an Englishman's comment "get an education, even a rubbish American one" as not being an insult to the educational institutions to be found in America, but more directed to the American tendency to avoid utilizing them.

I personally can't think of a better example of that tendency than the election there last month.  😄

That said, I'm not trying to inject a forbidden topic (politics) here.

Cheers!

How VERY MAGAT of you.  Also noted.

Perhaps this thread has energizied some of the Indonesian Forum readers out of their slumber. Sometimes its about as stimulating as watching paint dry. Maybe thats why Fred spends most of his time on the Philippines Forum?

Ubudian

"Maybe thats (sic) why Fred spends most of his time on the Philippines Forum?"

You could send Fred a PM and ask him directly.  Knowing him fairly well I would speculate that he isn't thinking of moving there even though our neighbor has much to offer with expatriate life.

The question I would be inclined to ask is why are some posters...posters who have never experienced the life of an expatriate (according to their own profiles) trolling some expats who have lived this life in Indonesia for many years?
