ITAS HOLDER GOING TO APPLY FOR KITAP

I've never worked in Indonesia but as far as I know, if you have a Kitas or Kitap, you are allowed to work, but you must have a working permit which an employer will need to apply for. You can't just have a Kitap and then expect to get any job. This kind of policy is common with lots of countries. And I understand that usually those will special skills in particular the ones that indonesian citizens do not have are more likely to get approved than those types of jobs that Indonesians can do. In other words, it might be very difficult to get a work permit approved for jobs that jobs in sales, marketing, finance and so many other 'common' fields.

Let me just clarify, you do not need a work permit to get a Kitap, the process is easy and you should do it yourself. And having a Kitap does not make it easier to get a work permit or allow you to get a job.

@Muhammad Nazakat, have no worries Muhammad. After two years of marriage, I became eligible for a KITAP and applied to it on August 1 and received it 10 days ago. So the process took about five weeks. I heard in some cities it might even take up to 3 months and people say they even had their family visited by imigrasi. This was not the case for me.First,  I had my KITAP (valid for five years) and then applied to dukcapil to get my WNA KTP (A stands for asing - expat) - which is Pink. lol. Therefore, there is no need to apply for a work permit or etc to receive a KITAP. Whoever told it to you either doesn't know the law or just made it up. Once your marriage turns out to be two full years on KITAS of course, then you are eligible for it. (in your case it's September , so it's been two full years. Don't be late to apply for it though as your KITAS might have expired or might expire soon. Directly bring all the documentation they require to the imigrasi. As far as I remember from my application, you should bring them "the letter of no impediment to marriage" that you received from your country's embassy prior to your marriage in Indonesia. That is the most important document of all, then the rest is easy. Imigrasi guys are as helpful as can be so just follow their instructions. The amount you should pay for a KITAP application ( including MERP ) is 6.750.000 IDR. This is the legal amount so please DO NOT pay any extra amount to immediators or other agencies who may ask you for up to 45.000.000 IDR ( there are a handful of tragic cases like that in the past, I guarantee you ). Especially, some agencies make the whole process look as though it was so complicated so that you may desperately need their services but this is NOT TRUE. Everything is so easy and smooth. Imigrasi officers are so helpful and you'll see you will get the KITAP only for its legal fee. (6.75 Juta)

So in short, as an answer to your question = NO there is no work permit requested for KITAP. (plus KITAP itself even makes it eligible for you to work in Indonesia as long as an Indonesian company wants to employ you) There is one more thing, with KITAP you can work in the informal sector without a work permit (protected under regulations by the Indonesian government) the reason for that is merely "human rights" Because to live in Indonesia and take care of your family needs, you should be able to work. Everything will work fine Muhammad. No worries!

edit: Buying a house here is a completely different process, to protect your rights on that house you should sign a postnuptial agreement with your wife. ( one more thing KITAP gives you the right to a joint ownership of that house )
