Hi salmahamid4

I’m unsure whether it is a requirement to open a bank account for a property purchase.

having enquired about buying a property at Bank Populaire in November 2024, we were advised that to become a resident in the future, you should have a bank account!

we went back in November 2025 and opened one! You’ll need to take your own currency and on arrival at the airport, you’ll need to declare your money at the customs and advise them that you are opening a bank account with this.

you’ll be issued with a paper that you’ll need to present at the bank when opening your account.

took us about 40mins as we opened one account each!

Note that if you want to have a bank card, you’ll need to return with 2-3 weeks to collect this in person!

hope this is helpful :)

Thank you for the information. My husband opened one however he has been advised to go back within 3 months to collect the bank card. He managed to open two.

Good evening, from Spain;

Can a bank account be opened online, or does it have to be in person?

Hi,

Yes, the account must be opened in person. Unless you have the option of opening an account at a Moroccan bank branch, such as Attijari Wafa Bank, you should check with the branch in person beforehand to be sure.
