I have ridden automatic scooters for a few years but only around the city. I am planning a trip around a few towns- Battambang, Kep etc - and wondering if it would be better to use a Honda FTR manual gear bike. I have ridden one before but only once. Any thoughts? Would I be better off on a PCX, which I am used to, or an FTR, which would be a learning experience?

Go with an FTR. It looks like they were designed for Cambodia. If anything goes wrong with it most things can be repaired on the side of the road or village moto shop. The PCX is great for around Phnom Penh but with the smaller wheels they don't like potholed roads or road work of which there is a bit. The 250 engine and gearing is more than capable of touring the whole country.
