Teaching in Germany

Hi all, I am looking to teach in Germany as I cannot find a position, here where I currently live in Denmark.
I have a boyfriend and apartment here in Denmark, both I intend on keeping (hopefully.., ;) )
I would also hope to visit said boyfriend as much as possible so I want to apply to places in Germany that are relatively near to Denmark.

This is a kinda last resort after months of being unable to find work in Denmark.

I have applied to Hamburg, Bremen, Hannover, and Berlin.

Is there any other schools anyone would be aware of that would be worth applying to around these regions?

As well, what would be the standard salary over there for teachers, I know a lot of international schools have their own private pay scales but I can't find anything to state what they are like.

I am used to Danish taxes but for a single person, who already has a Danish pension, insurance etc. (boyfriend is in university in Denmark and won't be moving over) would they really be as high as 45% as I have read on some pages. :o

As well, I am thinking Berlin might be an easier place to get a teaching position, is there any good websites to find rooms/apartments there as I don't know the websites.
Also is there any areas I should avoid staying in?

Note: I have a bachelor of education & international honors diploma. I have a couple different certificates for technology in the classroom etc. I don't have any full-time experience but I do have 13 months teaching practice in a range of different curriculums.

OMG. Do you even speak German?  At least you have a degree in education? Why would you think it easier to find a teaching job in Germany? And your profile says you are living in the Netherlands but you write you are in Denmark. And you want to work in Germany near Denmark which would pretty much suggest Flensburg yet you mention trying in Hamburg, Bremen, Hannover, and Berlin. Not sure how to put all of the contradictions together?!

Being a native English speaker can even be a plus in an international school but only if you are also pretty fluent in German in most cases. And 13 months is not a lot of experience to impress potential employers with. For a teacher’s salary, I would assume more of being in the 35 % tax range but there are websites that can approximate.

As far as finding a place to live, it’s difficult in most German cities especially as a foreigner. There are websites but they have been mentioned in a dozen other threads on this site. The words to google are” Immobielein” meaning  property, or “Wohnung suchen” meaning searching (for an) apartment.

As far as safety in Berlin it is a judgement call. There are probably few places one would consider too dangerous but this depends on one’s experience and perceptions. Of course certain neighborhoods are poorer than others and usually have a higher percentage of foreigners. Such places might seem scary to some, others find them edgy and cool. Such things are easily googled as well without one taking the time here to give a run down on every neighborhood in Berlin, especially since it is so tentative you will even end up there.

To add to what Tom has said, I think you will experience the same problems you are having in Denmark. Teacher training is one thing but without a couple of years behind your belt working and gaining experience sorry to say it will be nearly impossible. Maybe go and get some experience in your home country first?

I've just had a look at Tes, (formerly known as the Times Educational Supplement,) and there are only 26 jobs going in Germany. Jobs in Germany

If you are dead set in being with your boyfriend, you could look at doing some low skilled work like cleaning etc... then maybe tutoring on the side. I don't know the laws on that in Denmark, you would have to ask in the Denmark Forum.

Sorry if this has not been what you wanted to hear, I can only wish good luck on your journey.
