Hi

my wife and I are retiring to Greece this summer and are thinking of driving to Kalamata and I wonder if anybody else has driven from the UK to Greece and how difficult it is to transfer the car registration into Greek number plates. I have heard horrid stories but wonder if any one else has gone through the process.

your help and advice will be much appreciated.

Hi Moh, I would strongly recommend that you do not try and bring your car to Greece, it is a complex and expensive process and you will have the obvious problem of RH drive, something I would not like to try here in Greece.  Although cars are a little more expensive here the process is quite straight forward.  Used cars also hold their price well but a RH drive will be worthless.  Hope this helps

If you look through previous posts from a member called..The Grocer..he is very up on these things, done it I think, have a scroll through or tap in posts from him and you will see this information, dont forget you will need a tax number here to buy a car and probably to keep one and then it must be declared on the yearly tax papers.

Just to say as well that when and if the UK leaves the EU then rules/laws on thousands of things will change, right of personal entry into the EU state, taking of vehicles into, goods etc..etc..a visa to enter EU will be required at a cost, bringing in of pets, driving license will change,it will be a mine field of stress I think.
