How do I find a job in Amsterdam?

At the top of the page is a link to our Handy Tools section, within which are our Expat Guides that may help you in planning this.  Assuming you don't have Dutch nationality through your family, then you will certainly have to go through the Dutch Integration process.  Being an Afrikaans speaker will almost certainly help you to learn Dutch, but be aware that Afrikaans is a 200-year-old mix of Dutch, German, English and African tribal words that hasn't developed much in that time; nobody in Holland speaks Afrikaans, although I think most will understand you.  There are short films on YouTube (search Naar Nederland) that may help you.

To try and answer your specific question, to be honest, except for the fact that my wifes' eyes glaze over when she sees one, I don't know much about diamonds per se.  Assuming you're not talking about a high street retail business, I do know that they tend to be family run businesses and recruit from within.  Perhaps a good idea would be to speak to your current suppliers in South Africa and ask who they trade within Holland, get some names and contact details, then contact them.

As for trying something new; the Dutch are big in qualifications, so what else are you qualified to do?  In general, the Dutch are not short of shop-workers but are always looking for skilled people.
