I've been in San Francisco for three years.  I've lived in London, Quebec and the states and have been fortunate to have met incredible people on the journey one of which is my best friend who is from Brazil.  On my travels there this year I met some partners at a public accounting firm and to my surprise two months later accepted a position in Sao Paulo. I'm moving in less that two months and have been getting quite anxious.

I'm getting corporate housing for one month then need to find a place of my own.  I would love to live with someone but understand the culture of 'roommates' are quite different in Brasil.  Additionally, I'm interested in what you think about different neighborhoods, living styles, standard of living, etc.  I'm only 27 so I want to live in a fun, lively, yet safe neighborhood.  Also, it would be great to get your prospective so please give me a helping hand on my big move!!

Hi Reanna,
Sao Paulo is an amazing city. It's very diverse and active. People are friendly and warm.
I've been working here in Brazil for 2 years, a year of which is here in Sao Paulo. So far I only tried to live in Jardins near Av.Paulista. They said Sao Paulo is dangerous but so far I never experience anything bad. I always took the subway and bus everyday doing to and from work. So I think its better if you could find an apartment near your work.
Since you had lived in London and San Francisco, I will assume that you will find it cheaper here. Because in my case, I find it too expensive here compared to Manila. But there were areas or barrios where in you can find cheap places to shop for specific things.
In terms of entertainment, Sao Paulo is a total complete stop. Almost everything is here already except the beach which I think is atleast an hour away by bus.
I am hoping for you success here.

Regards,
Kenj

Hi Reanna,

Welcome to SP, Brazil! I spent most of my life living in Bay/Santa Cruz area California and I can certainly give you some perspectives.

Things are expensive here in SP!  Bring as much as you can.  Pack you suitcase to the MAX!  In terms of living area depending on where you work, you want to avoid traffic.  Most expats like Itaim\Moema area.  I live in Paulista area.  PM me if you need a housing specialists for expat.Itaim and Moema area are where some of my friends hang out.

PM me if you need something more specific.
