Just checking if anyone is doing regular camp outs or are not yet but want to?  We are very keen campers and have now indulged in a few here in Riyadh which have always been brilliant fun, with some amazing walks and scenery.  We are seeking other like minded Expat campers so we can expand our group and camping options and in particular are looking for the die hard campers who will be going out throughout the year.
If you are a Western Expat and keen to camp, have a 4 x 4 and camping stuff then please pm me.  We tend to be mainly family groups (with kids) so no wild party goers please  :)

Just an update to you on a few things for those interested in the ‘outdoor life’ and getting away from the City and the concrete of the compound or your apartments/villas every now and again.

There is a fantastic touristic entertainment area for families and singles, 70 km from Riyadh or 40 mins by car, called Safari Saudi.  The resort has a hotel with all facilities, a cinema, various leisure activities and an animal reserve.  Whilst this may sound rather ‘busy’ for some, there is an entire wildlife reserve area which is in total privacy from the main resort, which also allows for camping far from the main facilities and provides privacy for people wishing to enjoy the peace and solitude of the reserve, where you camp amongst the gazelles and ostriches (sounds idyllic) .

The reserve is a secure and controlled area so for those of you who are a little nervous to venture out into the open desert, this offers you the peace of mind you may be seeking.  Also, if you do not have camping equipment they hire out tents for a fee of 250 sr per tent which sleeps 2 persons on beds.

I am already a member of the facebook group for this resort and if you want more information you can join the fb group or call Hassaan on 05 69 69 74 89.

We are going out there to camp this weekend, so I will provide some feedback next week on this post.

We do most of our camping out in the open space. It's just that not everyone likes the vulnerability of that, especially if they have children, so we tend to offer a compromise to some so they still get out of the city and the house, but still have some form of protection.  Besides, some of the employers insist that their personnel do not take the open space camping risk and will only endorse 'controlled' camping.

You can never please all the people all the time, but sometimes you can try and meet half way :)
