Hi

I highly recommend IDEO Eyes Wide Open New York.  Its not your typical tourist book, and is filled with places to see in the city that are off the tourist track and includes many things that are part of a typical New Yorker's life.

Also check out manhattan.about.com and NYCGO.com and New York Times online - all great sites for seeing whats happening around the city while you're here and full of great advice on local spots to eat, drink etc.

Enjoy

Sorry - not the NY Times online - I meant New York Magazine.  nymag.com/

I've been there and some things that I loved were: Broadway shows, Museums ( the Met), their public library, central park, Rockefeller center. If you want to avoid the long line to go up the empire state building, there are not lines at the Rockefeller center and you can see just the same view. The Statue of Liberty. Last, but not least, the clubs!!! It's a beautiful city! Brookling is beautiful too. Chinatown, cheapest souvenirs. Little Italy, right in front of Chinatown. The city tour on one of those double decker buses is also a must, cheaper than doing it on a taxi, and at night is really pretty. It's a wonderful city!! Beautiful architecture. Fast paced city, really fast. Bryant Park, lovely place.
