Moving to New York for work - rent and bills paid but not sure

Hi All,
I have been asked by work in London to move to NYC for 1 year. Work will provide a flat and pay the bills but the whole thing makes me very nervous. My wife will be moving with me but i have concerns around the following...

Will my wife be able to find work easly (she is a network admin)
Will we be able to meet other people and socialise
What is it like living in central NY
Is it safe

So many questions and so little help. Does anyone have any ideas

Well as for your wife, the job market is very scarce here.  She will have a very difficult time.  More than likley she will find work as you are leaving.  New york, is very safe.  There are a few areas I would try to avoid, but if you are living in Manhattahn I wouldn't worry.  Just stay out of Morningside on the upper westside. Also I would stay away from Upper Eastside.  Finding and meeting people is easy.  Go on to Garysguide.com and go to a few social events.  It could help your wife find a job and also help to socialize.  Good luck and welcome to NYC

It would most likely to be very difficult for your wife to find a job.  I assume she would require sponsorship for a working visa, and i do not think her expertise is unique. You only live here for one year why not make the best of your both experience?! Stay downtown Chelsea or flatiron or upper west side by the park - those are lively neighborhoods.
