Training

Can anyone give me an insight on the training involved for console op roles please

Maildar,

Below is an outline of a training program for a Console or Panel Operator, it is quite extensive and in many cases it is recommended that the trainee work the Field operator position for a number of years before training for the Console Operator position. This isn't always a requirement but I believe that it makes the trainee a more competent  Console Operator.  The training program should consist of a theoretical and practical part.
The theoretical section will include:
Unit specific product description including physical characteristics relating to quality control and safety, health and environment. Where appropriate it is recommended to include a section on product applications and customers.
Detailed unit description with emphasis on mass balance, energy balance, general design, (including reaction kinetics if applicable) and unit control systems including alarm and emergency shutdown systems. The description should include general information about the functioning of the board. Where appropriate, infrastructure including the one related to safety and environment should be included.
Organisation, team structure and roles and responsibilities.
    Operating permits.
    Process Safety

The practical section will include:
General practice operating the board. It is recommended that this is achieved through generic simulation.
Unit specific activities related to the function of control room operator including running the unit, optimisation, shutting down, starting up, emergency shutdown and crisis management.

Hope this helps.
