Childhood memories of Belgium

As a child living in Belgium, I remember eating a special treat in early January -- probably on the Epiphany.  It was a small sausage wrapped in pastry, known as wurst in brot.  Can anyone provide me with a recipe?  I'd love to share it with my friends here in Connecticut.

Welcome on board cttiger,

I have moved the discussion to the Belgium forum

the recipe for "worstenbroodjes":

1st of all there are 2 kinds of worstenbroodjes. One with sausage meat of minced meat. And in the other one there is a sausage(curryworst)that you can only find in belgium and holland (i think).

so i'll give you the recipe for the first one:

for 1 worstenbrood:

1 pig sausage
1/4 of a pre rolled puff paste/ foam paste.(in belgium we can just buy it  in a supermarket)
egg yoke

what you have to do is:
roll the pastery open, cut it in 4 and take 1/4 of the paste.
Then you take the pig sausage and squize out the subsance. then role the dough very lose around the sausage and fold the ends and then sitck it close with egg yoke. then bake it on an ovenplate with the oven on 170°c for 10 to 15 minutes then for 5 minutes on 180°c.
and then it's ready.

but i have to say that the worstenbroodje you have eaten probably was the other kind because that kind is the most popular.

I hope you and your friends will enjoy it
