Hi! To everybody I'm new to this site but not to Budapest I love the poeple and city so much I'm thinking of moving there for a year. Any information you can give me to help streamline me getting a resident permit would be helpful. I will be back in Budapest in late Jan. to start all of the paper work but I would like to know the ins and outs of getting resident permit if could be for I get started. Thank you for your time and help.

Your legal requirements are most likely specific to your nationality: I don't suppose you'd need to do anything if you are from the EU for example.
I'm local, so I wouldn't know for sure of course.

OK, so there are profiles, so I can see you are from the US, so I guess you should prepare for horrible reciprocal administrative hell.

The US embassy of Budapest has always been friendly and helpful with my daughter's issues, (she's a US citizen) so I recommend asking them in e-mail or over the phone.
