Hi,

I am a South African citizen and my girlfriend is an American citizen. We met in South Korea whilst teaching here and have been together for about a year.

She really would like to move to South Africa to be with me. I have read about the Life Partner Visas, but I see that the co-habitation thing might pose problems.

We have not lived together here in Korea, because our employers each provide us with our own accommodation as part of our contracts. We obviously intend to live together in South Africa and I intend to financially support her until whatever necessary visas and work permits etc are organised.

Could anyone offer some advice as to how we should proceed with regards to a visa for her?

Is it even worth looking at the Life Partner route if we haven't lived together?

We can definitely prove that we have been in a relationship etc, its just the co-habitation thing thats going to prove a problem..

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Aurélie

Hi.

I don’t think you would be able to get a LPP if you do not have cohabitation, maybe you should look into another visa option. What is your GF planning to do while in S.A. maybe she should study and get a study permit, or work as a volunteer then you will be able to live together and get some cohabitation, then in a years time you can apply for the LPP.

Your GF must contact the S.A. consulate in her home country to find out about the requirements for the different visas, to make the best decision.

Good Luck with it.
Regards Sarah
