Hi,

are foreign investors welcome in Portugal?

Is it complicated to register a company in Portugal? What is the procedure?

What is the corporate tax rate in Portugal?

Is it easy to recruit?

Any advice you would share with us?

Thank you very much for your participation,

Julien

First step would be to contact the Portuguese embassy in your country. Then you should contact your country's attache in the embassy in Lisbon. After that, you should have all the info you need.

Christine

Thank you for this info, diverdutch! :)

Plans were recently announced to create a speedy 'investors' visa for foreigners who plan on investing in Portugal, not sure about the details but Portugal is trying to attract investors...

HI!

YES! Foreign investors are welcome for all investment areas, but I have to tell that outside the country foreigners tend to think that they can implement their ideas in Portugal following the same practice in their countries. In most cases it will not work as they wish, there are slight ( or many ) adaptations to consider, only a business adviser can help when studying a specific investment plan.

If he / she is not resident in Portugal ( it can be a company instead of a person ) they first need to find a fiscal representative. This representative will be the contact that the Portuguese state require to be found everytime the state need to contact the investor ( for tax purposes and legal stuff ).

When they have fiscal representative then they will be able to open a bank account and they can do 1 of 2 things.

Hire an adviser to help them go through the set up process and start the company, or they can go directly to a "ninho de empresas" ( an official place where they can set up the company themselves, the all process will cost them a few hundred euros in total ).

They will appoint the fiscal representative as their contact in Portugal ( or business manager if accepted by the fiscal representative which usually do not accept, so, the investor will remain his own manager or find someone else to be so ) and can start his business. There are many other steps to make that will be told in the right moment ( social security, tax office and some licensing requirements to make including the accountancy office identification ) but it is not big deal.

For tax information it is another story, that depends in several aspects that only a consultancy meeting would reveal after knowing the CAE ( activity code ) and some other interesting information regarding the business to create. I just could not give an accurate information here "just like that".

These are the best days to recruit people in Portugal, be fair and workers will be pleased to be part of the team, there is nothing better than creating good relationships, money is not important afterall, a smile eyes in the eyes is, employers and employees can be friends and act in partnership like the musketeers, "one for all and all for one".

Welcome all investors, be wise.
