Hi
My new employer is paying me in pounds is that normal? if so how do i spend it over in ksa or transfer it as cheaply as possible back to the uk

Your best option is open accounts with SABB. Which is HSBC in the UK.

You can have a sterling account for your pay and sending money back to UK. (The process is easy and can be done online)

The other account will be a Saudi Riyal account for your expenses.
The bank will convert some sterling to Saudi Riyals.

The expats in my place of employment get paid in Saudi Riyals. Not sure if getting paid in sterling is common.

This is uncommon you should be paid in the currency of the country you're living in. but as what has been said you can always have them transfer your salary directly to your account back in your country and you will get it in your own currency if that's what you want
