Welcome on board Tampa_sa!

I've got a couple of questions for you. Is it easy to find a job in Riyadh?

Do you know any good riyadh-related website?

All the best,

Julien

Tampa_sa

hi Julien,
well it depends on your speciality, but Riyadh has alot of new companies and is growing quit fast, and foreign experts are very appreciated here.
so i guess yes it is easy.

According to you, which profiles are needed? Qualified profiles, I suppose?

Hello Everyone..

I am planning to move to Riyadh in June 2007 on a Business Visa. If my wife is in Canada for a few more months, what will be my tax liabilities as a Canadian?

I read the CRA guidelines and it seems like 26% taxes are to be paid.....hmm..if that's the case,,,,,a move to Riyadh may not even be worth it.....

Any words of wisdom from Canadians living in Riyadh will be appreciated very much.

Hi , My husband got offer to work at Riyadh.
I have two children, one 3 years old, and 6 month old.
I need a lot of info about how to live there? I heard that living in Riyadh is quite hard for women. Is it true?
I am very appreciate any kind of info.

tough question to answer - if you are the sociable type and your company provides good quality housing you will most likely find yourself immersed with other women in the same situation.  Adapting will therefore be easier.

If on the other hand you are in a smaller compound you may find life more difficult.

Generally when shopping you either go out with your husband or during the week with other wives on the compound bus or with your own driver depending on the circumstances>  When out and about you must 'cover up' thems the rules.  In compounds you can do as you please.

For your kids again on a large compound they will get lots of new 'aunts' and 'uncles' and they will learn to swim!!  Some places also have day care.

Riyadh has a great variety of restaurants and great shopping and medical care is pretty high standard.

Downsides - the heat in the summer, the religious police and for wives sometimes the loneliness

Hope this helps a bit - have your husband find out where you will be living - that is important

I am from India. I will be moving to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I am a Christian.

I wanted to know whether living in compounds is limited to westerners only? How much is the least cost available falt in a compound.

How is driving in Riyadh? I hold a GCC licence, will it be valid in Riyadh?

How about DSL internet? Or internet through Mobile? What is cost?

Thanks in advance for the answers!

Hi All

I am living in Riyadh for the next 6 months and was wondering if there was any social outlet for Westerners. I am staying with several people from the company I work for and we are beginning to crawl down each others throats as we are around each other 24/7/ I need to get away from these guys......

Just a heads up for folks heading out there on a work visa.  My brother is there for just over a month now doing an IT contract and has a standard 6 month multiple entry visa.  What is not publicized much is that you need to leave the country every 30 days on this visa.  To his shock on Wednesday he wasn't allowed leave the country as he had overstayed by 3 days and now has to pay a fine and get paperwork from the visa sponsor  just to leave the country.  Ask, doublecheck, ask again!

Hi .... I'm very new here.

I'm Asian, Christian, and my Australian husband got a job in Riyadh, Saudi and we'll move there in a few months. I have 2 daughters, 15 & 10 years old.

I understand that I and my oldest daughter need to be covered if we go outside the compound. Does it have to be black or we can wear any other colour?

My daughters study Japanese language in school here, and they love it. Do you have any info if they can continue to have it over there?

Any info about these wud be very appreciated. Thank you
