Establishing a history with international bank with officers in Chile

Michael1237

I am thinking of moving to Chile in a few years and expect to want to a mortgage. I'm wondering if it makes sense to open an account with one of the international banks with a presence in Chile, in order to establish a history with them prior to looking for a mortgage. I'm thinking of using santander because they also have offices in Europe. Will depositing some cash into one of their savings accounts make a difference when it's time to apply for that mortgage?
