The Vietnam Immigration Department has suspended an officer on the suspicion of asking for a tip from a Singaporean tourist at Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport...

Yeah, read that earlier tonight. Good to see it!

I read another follow-up article on how visa problems are a big part of why Vietnamese tourism is not returning to pre-pandemic levels.  The problems at immigration are a major brake on the tourism industry.

Lessons on how to smile and interact with people would go a long way.

Biggest problem is the fact that these immigration guys/gals, especially at land borders, have to pay a bribe to someone higher up to obtain the job.

Are Viet Kieu still expected to give "tips"? A few of my Canadian Vietnamese friends are still throwing some tips in their passport but I wonder if it's really necessary nowadays? The news about asking a non Vietnamese for tip is quite shocking.
