CRMN Card Machine Broken - Expect Delays

mikehunter

Went to the PF yesterday and asked about the status of my CRNM.  They were very friendly and printed out an extension for me extending the time by 3 months.  Apparently, there have been problems with the printing machine and the backlog continues to grow each day the machine is broken.  My card was sent for printing in early December, and they are telling me the earliest to expect it to arrive will now be in the May timeframe.

Just an FYI…

I was told the same. Is there only one machine for the entire country?

mikehunter

@jasonlovesdogs Yes, that seems to be the situation.  At least that is the impression I and my Brasilian friend received from the PF when we visited.  So anyone who needs an extension should go to the PF and get one.  It’s quite easy and they are very nice about it.

Also, if you don’t think you’ll be in the country when the card is finally ready, you should get a Power of Attorney prepared (remember to make sure it has the correct stamp from the cartario as I mentioned in another post) so it can be used to pickup the CRNM.

Thank you for sharing. Have been waiting for over 2 months as well.

Could you pla advise which state is.

Thanks for sharing, Mike.

Have been waiting for over 2 months as well and this might explain the delay. Pls advise which state is mentioned.  Thanks

@Ursa Enigma I’m in Sao Paulo, but there apparently is only one machine, so this affects the entire country.

Has anyone recently received their CRNM card and if so, when did you have your PF interview where you received the protocol number?  Do we have to go back to the PF to get an extension while waiting for the CRNM card, or can we simply wait until the card has been shown as sent on the SISMIGRA - Sistema de Registro Nacional Migratório?

mikehunter

@californiainbrazil Yes, that would be an interesting data point - but I wouldn't hold my breath.  When I went to the PF, they told me to expect the May 2024 timeframe, and I had my appointment the first week of December, 2023.

You don't need to get an extension while in Brasil.  If you decide to leave and return you MAY need an updated document to get on the return flight - although if the airline goes to the website on the expired form for validation purposes, they'll see that your residency has not expired and is valid.  The PF shouldn't have an issue at all because when they enter your information on their terminal they'll see you are a valid resident.
