If you aren't white, some might suggest the list of reasons is somewhat limited at the moment.

@Fred

Thanks for sharing your view.

I understand experiences can be different for every person, but I’m just asking about the general benefits of living in the USA.

Cheryl

hello dumipigdiowil,

Welcome to Expat.com šŸ˜€

The question is quite broad, so it would help if you could be a bit more specific. Are you interested in general benefits regarding the health system, housing, work opportunities, social life, or something else in particular?

This will make it easier for members to give you useful insights.

Cheers,

Cheryl

As it stands now, there aren't any benefits to living in America. Record students are leaving to study elsewhere in the world. More people go bankrupt because of accumulating health bills. So while the current administration is in power, anyone thinking of moving seriously needs to think again.

Everyone with a Green Card is now going to be investigated; I guess more ICE agents are going to be rounding up people. Very similar to 1930s Germany.

The latest news is that foreign nationals will be subject to searches of their social media history, and that may whilst living there as well as upon entering the country.

Add often violent ICE arrests against legal migrants (and even non-white US citizens), and we have to question the advantages of expat life in the US of A.

However, I'm told that rich white expats, assuming they don't get caught up in a mass shooting or get murdered in a street mugging, can have a good life over there.

Ah, almost forgot - Female expats - There's a rape every four minutes.

Overall, a violent crime occurred in the US every 26 seconds, a murder every 31 minutes and a rape offence every four minutes.

Honestly, there are more concerns about living in the US right now than there are benefits, especially for foreigners or immigrants, and anyone who looks as though they may be either. These concerns come from both the government and from the populace itself. While the quality of life is higher than in much of the world, the cost of living is extremely expensive, particularly in regard to healthcare and education. If you do not have the finances to afford a middle- or upper-middle-class lifestyle, then the benefits are even fewer.
