Civil unrest?

Trying to get some understanding, I found the voluminous detail in this piece even more confusing:

any time you have a caste system as entrenched as in Mexico you may expect civil unrest.  the article is pretty straight forward.  what is confusing?

Mexico, the people I know, doesn't seem to be very concerned about the current unrest over gasoline prices following on several months of road blockages over schools not having received money to operate.  Anybody's guess if anything will occur to make an expat's life in Mexico insecure.  I doubt it.

What is Mexico upset about ? Many of the same things that people in the U.S. are finally waking up to. One of the differences is the people actually see the truth. Peña has lied to them. The cost of electricity dropped then came right back up. Now there is a claimed gas shortage since the system has started to open the door more to outside gas companies. The people know what is fair and what is not.

They know the government wants more taxes, while the leaders are wanting new i-phone 7's , all of their expenses paid, lavish trips and new cars for them and their families. This is what they see , this is what they feel.

How does it effect us ? Things cost a little more, but still far less than in the U.S.. I paid almost $700 pesos for gas yesterday instead of a little over $500. I'm paying a little more for lunch out, and I increased my housekeepers pay because I knew she would be paying more for the bus.. Do I see a lot of violence ? NO. There are those young men breaking into stores and stealing T.V.,s 1000 have been arrested. There are peaceful protesters, like those in the U.S. The government is trying to shift the focus from the issues to the robbers just as they do in the U.S. The same things happen in the U.S. Has trump caused instability ? YES everywhere, but especially in the U.S. People everywhere don't know how to respond because every day is different.

As for the dead teachers, that is a different more complex issue from a couple of years ago. As in the U.S. there are areas that are more poor and much more unstable.

I live in Mexixo since 2006, built a house.
In Chetumal, Quintana Roo the area is safe like many other areas in Mexico.
Strikes should not be compared  or confused with war zone in the middle east.
It does not last very long and the strikers are not going to hurt you.

I wouldnt be concerned at all. That is not happening in my hometown nor in other areas of the country.
