When would I be eligible for state healthcare?

Opioid painkillers are very much controlled down here.  And state insurance is not what you would like.  If you get sent to the hospital you will need someone to take care of you.  Its the medical stuff and that is it in state-run facilities. And private insurance is god awful expensive as in 1k to 2k USD a month with existing conditions if they will cover you at all.  If you can't pay your own way or pay for an emergency flight service to get back to the USA to use your Medicare then Mexico is not for you.  It is not a the land everything cheap that others sell it to be.  Medical is very inexpensive here to pay out of pocket and private insurance is a rip-off for rich gringos who can't do math.  The 2k USD a month they wanted for me and my wife is 24k a year.  Put that in a 10% cedes at a bank that is 2.4k USD a year free and we haven't even paid that much in a year and we have gotten CT scans bone density scans you name it.

Don't take what I am saying the wrong way.  But if you have Medicare and have major issues and you can't afford to pay it yourself down here then most likely you won't be happy here.  There are reason why residency income requirements are so high.  The Mexican govt doesn't want people who will come down then not be able to pay there own way.  They don't want USA citizens to come down and add more pressure on an already over-stressed system.

Ohh forgot.  PV is a very hot and wet place most of the year.  And the infrastructure is starting to be stressed by the huge growth in the area.  They have a modern water system where you get water pressure in town all the time which is not common here.  But with the growth that is starting to get pushed and if they have to they will start to have water days like most of the rest of Mexico which means you need a large water tank below your house and a tank on the roof then. From what I have seen in the town area of PV I do not see these roof tanks.  The cost in PV is much higher than in the Chapala area.  The weather here in Lake Chapala is supposed to be the 2nd best in the world and it feels like it.  If you can afford to live on the mountainside the breezes are here all year round and if you keep your house open you get a great breeze thru your house year round.  If you are lake side of the caratera you will not get as good of breezes. PV is so much more crowded then the Lake Chapala area.  Dont listen to the people who were here for the last 20 years.  They want this area to be like it was a super small town... its grown but nothing like PV and other ocean cities have.  So much more green here and it has a lot of empty lots still left around.  This is what San Antonio looks like from above... nothing like a over crowded area.

Thanks for the info.  Not counting SS I suspect my 401K at about 3/4 $MM may be sufficient to emigrate.  Opiods are very controlled in the US to the point that legitimate patients have committed suicide because they can't get their meds and the pain is intolerable.  My health has been stable for 20+ yrs but I need an md to write the scripts I need. In the states I see my md maybe 3 times a yr and usually a telehealth meeting.  This is obviously something I need more info about.  Hoping to visit an MD when I visit in March to get more info.

Re read your post. 10% CD? Lucky to get 3% here now!  Am I understanding correctly that out of pocket is that inexpensive?   Is the National Healthcare any good at all for just maintenance?  Must I be a permanent resident or full on citizen to qualify?  In emergency,  a flight back to the US wouldn't be an issue.   Aside from severe neuropathy and high cholesterol,  im in good shape.  Of course no one can guess what the future will bring.  Any thoughts are most welcome!  Thanks again!

I just went to Multiva today and yes cedes 6 month is still over 10% return.  Not sure where your getting your info.  Heck I get 5% in my HSBC premier savings account!
