Health insurance for Swiss and for Finnish

insurance is personnal and you need a swiss insurance anyway.

There are some insurances for families but we don´t know does the whole family include if dad and child are Swiss but mum is Finnish.

it's individual, even if they propose you some nice package at the end it's all made of individual insurance.
there is no distinction on nationality

Okay, that´s why it wasn´t cheaper. We know that it´s expensive but maybe it´s better to take several insurances in the beginning for everyone..?

There are two health insurances:

There is the *mandatory* insurance ("KVG") which is mandatory for anyone living in Switzerland, irrespective of age or nationality. It is offered by hundreds of different companies. Coverage is *exactly* the same for all companies, as the conditions are set by law. Any company you choose, has to accept you irrespective of your health condition - this is also set by law.
The rates and some service conditions vary from company to company and it is well worth to compare rates as this insurance will consume quite a part of your monthly budget.
You don't have to insure all family members at the same company. If company A is cheaper for you, and B is cheaper for your wife or children, it is OK that you take insurance through A and your wife and kids through B.
There are NO family reductions on the mandatory insurance and everyone (kids as well) need an insurance. When pregnant, register the unborn child in advance with a health insurance company. This will avoid financial problems in case the child is born with an illness.

There are optional insurances for things that are not covered by the mandatory insurance. You are free to take such an insurance or not.
These insurances are much less restricted by law, and there may be family reductions and so on. On the other hand, they may deny acceptance completely or partially (for specific illnesses, for example) if they want.
Recommended: dental insurance for children under 21. You need a Math Degree in Big Numbers to read a dentist bill in this country - and a well-filled bank account to pay the bill if your kids are not insured. Dental insurance for adults exists as well, but is as expensive as the dentist so less helpful.
