South African citizen looking to move to Aberdeen.

Hi all

Hope you are well.. I have chatted briefly to Julien who was very kind enough to give me some good advice re posting on the forum.

So, I am South African citizen and would like to move to Aberdeen in Scotland, however it isn't easy at the moment for a foreigner to find positions where a work permit has to be applied for on the candidates behalf, as I have heard that the government is clamping down on hiring too many foreigners.
Julien did mention working for the UK government however?

I am currently in South Africa working for a company called Vodacom which is part of the Vodafone group, again, trying all options within the company too.

If anyone can possibly assist and or maybe guide me, would be of great help.

Hello Shav,

First of all i think that you should contact the embassy, i think that they will give you further information about work permit.
I also think that you should have a look at this website, it concerns mainly visa and immigration to the UK : https://www.gov.uk/government/organisat … mmigration

Maybe you can tell us more about your qualifications and the sector in which you are willing to work please? ;)

Thanks so much for the information. Will look at the immigration site.

I am currently studying towards a BA degree and will complete it next year, however, I have worked in Dubai and London previously within the Events sector, Account management, Project management, Customer Services. Worked in Telecomms, TV, Construction and the Travel Industries.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
