Hi everyone,

My name is Sruthi Devaraju. I am originally from India, and I’m currently completing the final year of my Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Planning here in Italy.

I am planning a move to the Netherlands soon to take the next step in my career, and I’m really excited about the country's incredible approach to urban design and sustainability.

I would love to connect with fellow expats, locals, or anyone in the design/planning community. If you have any tips on navigating the housing market or networking in the Dutch architecture sector, please feel free to reach out!

Looking forward to connecting,

Sruthi

Why the Netherlands?

@Julien

Hello, I'm Julio, an American living in Europe and the UK since 2014. I just received my DAFT visa and resident permit for NL and am transitioning from London to Amsterdam. I can move quite easily and more quickly than my partner since I am self-employed, but they are now looking for work in Holland. So it's difficult navigating on that personal level and also logistically because I am choosing to spend months at a time until the permanent move (once they get a job). Housing is challenging already, and looking for short-term stays is even trickier. I feel lucky to have already been granted the visa. Thanks for the warm welcome to this community. I have already gotten a lot out of it. Much appreciated!

Hello Julio,

Welcome to Expat.com πŸ˜€

If you have not already, I recommend having a look at our guide: Living in the Netherlands: the ultimate expat guide. It covers many practical aspects of the move and everyday life that you may find useful.

And if you have questions about a specific topic, do not hesitate to start a new discussion on the Netherlands forum. Our members will be happy to share their experiences and advice.

Since your partner is job hunting, it may also be worth creating a CV in the job in the Netherlands section of the site to increase visibility with potential employers.

Wishing you both all the best with this new chapter, and I look forward to seeing you around!

Cheers,

Cheryl
