Clocks go back

SimCityAT

It's that time of year again. This Sunday, the clocks go back an hour. The time when you have to get the manual out to see how to change the clocks in the car and cooker!

And the microwave!

That one I struggle with.  I could try and get the kids on it.

It's not just clocks. I tried to add someone to WhatsApp and that has baffled me a number of times.

I don't bother with the cooker as I never use the clock. The car I leave that to the missus, as it's her car

I don't use the clock either for cooking but I do look at it for the time.

One of our cars updates over the Sat Nav but you do have to set the time zone if I remember correctly.

I think the clock change is one of the more depressing things about autumn.  I am really in favour of not changing.  I know it'll affect the people in the far North but we don't live there.

All our computers update automatically over the Internet.

It's amusing (a bit) to watch at 2am when everything just clicks backwards or forwards and one gains or loses 1h depending on the time of year.

@fluffy2560

We just have a wall clock in the kitchen, so we only have to turn our heads to look at it. Most of our clocks in the house are radio-controlled. Mobiles, computers and tablets are done automatically. I don't have an alarm as I wake up early anyway. I might set a reminder on Alexa if there is something I want to listen to on the radio or watch TV.

Clock Change results:

I have to login in again to a lot of my usual web sites as the certificates (for security) timestamp doesn't match now we've time warped backwards.   It was caused by automatic clock change on my computer.

Listening to the radio, one presenter with a 3h shift finished at 1am and the next one came on and instead of doing a 3h shift, had to do an extra hour with a 4h shift.   I hadn't thought about that before.  I suppose that affects a lot of people on shift work. I wonder if they get paid an extra hour.  I should hope so!

Its only on here that the time stamp is messed up, but it has been like that for a while. As I use a VPN, I think its set to Las Vegas all, the time I see the odd advert for Las Vegas, and weather,

Yes, same reasons.  Wrong timestamp invalidates the certificate.

I also use things like "live.com" which is Microsoft (MS).  It complained about it and forced me to login again.

You'd think they'd "get it" but apparently not.   My laptops change the clock themselves so you'd think it was integrated that MS websites would know.

I've worked peripherally in this field and accurate timestamping is incredibly important.

My browser (Vivaldi) has a built in free VPN (actually Proton VPN) but every time I try and use it, it sends me randomly to Amsterdam, then other places like Singapore.   Rarely does it do the USA and the UK is not even included as a free target which would be more desirable.  I don't want to pay.

If I use the ToR browser (free), I can pretty much guarantee the exit node will be in the USA but it's considered bad form to use the ToR network bandwidth that way (for streaming). BTW, it shows how dumb the UK government is on age verification.  ToR browser and ToR network deliberately has no kind of restrictions.
