Giurgui Bridge or Ferry?

I am currently planning our trip home to arrange residency but we had a nightmare at Giurgui Bridge and every time I pass it always looks terrible no matter early or late.

So, question is, is there a good time to get across it and if not, what are the ferries like? I noted that they aren't that frequent so do we get the same problems as also I believe the water level of the Danube is also an issue.

@jeanmandredeix Is it too much of a detour to go via Vidin?. I've never driven it, always fly.

We have our dog and this trip was to collect house documents so that when we go back we can start residency application. We also wanted to start work on the house which we have done, so got septic tank and windows and door installed.
