GuestPoster357

Hi,

Im an Irish Citizen and will be going to Bulgaria in the next few weeks by car. I have an Irish Passport. I will get the Ferry to France and go as straight as possible to Bulgaria but will Guards at crossroads need evidence of COVID Vac? Also i can get a Ferry to Spain and go from there. Any Irish people here who have done this Journey can give advice? Im new here and i know i should look at past Posts but ive so much on at the minute i cant think straight

Jane, if you're travelling from Ireland, according to the current rules none of the EU countries should ask for a Covid certificate at the border: https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/poli … -measures/

Serbia (some routes take you through it, and it's not in the EU) isn't listed as asking for any certificate, either.

If you've been vaccinated, it's probably wise to have a certificate just in case things change, but it's unlikely they'll change in the next few weeks.

I hope your trip goes well.

Hi, Good luck with your trip i have driven it now 8 times from the uk but always via Dunkirk, then into Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania and into Bulg. I do not advise going through Serbia. Dont forget to ensure you take all your relevant car stuff and dont forget certain Countries insist on you having your car lights on Hungary, Romania and Bulg insist or you will be pulled and expect a fine oh and breakdown cover. Where in Bulg are you going to?

If you go through Romania transylvania section can be really dangerous many lorries hurtling towards you on tight roads with hairpin bends not for the faint hearted, they dont slow up.

Pm me if you need any other info regards Ozzy

I hope your trip is smooth and problem-free, Jane.

Google Maps lets you download the route for offline use. You should be able to get your entire route all the way to Bulgaria. Even if you don't have roaming or a local SIM, it can still guide you. (If you have expensive roaming, then best to turn off mobile data while driving, to force Maps to use the offline data.) But you have to stick to the route, it can't recalculate the way it can when connected.

It's really not a bad drive. It's decent motorways almost all the way. You can do it in 3 or 4 days, comfortably. There are plenty of budget hotels/B&Bs on the route (I use booking dot com to find the ones near me, when I'm getting tired), and usually they have decent parking lots so you don't stress about your car full of your valuable possessions.
