Hello, I am a newcomer to the Expat forum. I am also in such a similar situation like yours. Did you manage to apply/process your single permit from Belgium itself, without going to home country?.

If it has to be done only from the home country, do we need to cancel the current RP before travelling to home country to initiate the process?

I am already working here in Brussels for last 2+ years on a dependent RP and I am much worried that cancelling the current RP will cause a break in my job and my employer may not accept that. I assume that I will lose my eligibility to work for a Belgium company without a valid RP/SP.

I will be thankful if you can share any guidance on this.

One of the fastest option is to process Professional / Freelance card.

Thank you very much for your response.

I am also trying to explore the possibility with getting a professional card. However, I heard that they have already stopped issuing Freelance/Professional cards for dependents after the introduction of Single Permit system, because under the SP system, the dependents have access to Belgium job market automatically.

Here is what I found from the Walloon website about these exemptions. Similar information is present in Flanders and Brussels websites as well.

Hi,

I think you should check with any agency process professional / freelance card.

If a person from non-eu can apply or a person holding single permit can apply, I should not stop a dependent to apply for the card.

2 months back, one of my friend moved from an employee (dependent) to a freelancer.

I will check with some agencies.

Dependent Work Permit will have to be applied from Home Country only. I got this confirmation from Commune.
