Hello North24,

I advise you to contact the immigration or foreign affairs department responsible for visas and residence permits to gather more information about this topic.

All the best,

Yes, you can change from a marriage visa (Non-Immigrant O based on being married to a Thai spouse) to a retirement visa (Non-Immigrant O based on retirement) without waiting for your current visa to expire. This change can typically be done from within Thailand, as long as you meet the requirements for a retirement visa. But it is complex and waiting the last 30 days would be easier.

To be eligible for a retirement visa, you must be at least 50 years old and meet one of the following financial criteria:

Have a minimum of 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least two months prior to the application.

Receive a monthly income of at least 65,000 THB.

Combine income and savings to total 800,000 THB.

You should also be able to provide documents proving your residency in Thailand, such as a rental agreement or utility bills.

In practice, most immigration offices allow you to apply for the change during the last 30 days of your current visa’s validity. However, some offices may accept the application earlier. It’s best to check with your local immigration office about their specific policies.
