This seems to be excellent news; I very much hope the peace becomes permanent. There are many Filipinos who live and work here in the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean, and who are greatly admired and respected in our community. I wish your nation well.
But will the Abu Sayyaf lay down their arms?  It seems the MILF has no control over them, does not speak for them.  Time will tell if the Filipino Taliban will accept the autonomous region as the final solution.
A lot of the problems are from criminal gangs (kidnapping) in the guise of separtists. They will not change.

Which is why I will probably never visit Mindanao.

not sure that will worry us too much   -if you know nothing about a place  -then best to stay away

Why would it worry you?  I know nothing?  Had a retired Philippines Army uncle murdered by the Abu Sayyaf in his home on Mindanao.

so -there are people murdered all over the world   ,are you just going to stay in your house?   been to mindanao several times  ,never had any problems

No, not vacationing in Afghanistan or Iraq or Pakistan or Syria even though there are people who never had any trouble there.  There's murder and then there's political murder, I know the difference.

oh you didnt mention that you were involved in politics  ,sure that might increase the risk of getting murdered  if you were living there but for general visitors   -this would not be a concern   ,likewise with the many foreigners  that all living all over mindanao   ,perhaps you should actually do some research and see that not all of mindanao is dangerous  ,          http://www.escapemanila.com/2013/12/bac … danao.html

I'm not in politics, but my uncle was murdered IN HIS HOME because he was retired military, Abu Sayyaf was doing a revenge killing.  Plenty of other nice places to live in Philippines, Mindanao is one of over 7,000 islands, can easily enjoy many others.

sure but that doesnt mean there is any less chance you could be murdered there    whether it be for politics or any other reason   .
