Stench from the rivers.

In my 4 weeks i have been here,i am shocked at the state of some of the rivers in Manila and other cities near by.The stench is unbearable and just too much rubbish floating on the water. My question is:Can one see it ever getting clean again? And what is the solution?

It would take a lot of time money and effort to clean up the rivers.

No money available, so no clean up.

I am sure if the one in charge really wanted to,it can be cleaned up,as labour is cheap here.Personally i dont think it is seen or smelt as a problem as they are used to it.As outside the houses i have been to in a number of area,s and on different islands, there is stagnant water with lots of rubbish.

Hi David, welcome to Philippines!

I think its not overseen, its just that its uncontrollable due to lack of discipline. Im not sure if the government is thinking of the solution for it.

Anyway, have fun here!
That's why you don't live in Manila! The Pasig river was black as charcoal when I first seen it in 1982. The typhoons will wash most of it away in rainy season, HA!
The only solution is to end corruption in the Philippines. So, there will be no solution. It will never be clean.
that one of the reasons i dont stay long in Manila, just head south to the province and youll see a great change, besides all they can try to do if they want,is to educated people because who will suffer in the long run will be there grandkids, and the more they wait to clean it the more costly it will be,so politicians please lend me your ears????????
