US shutdown

Ubudian

And now ladies and gentlemen, just when you thought things couldn’t possibly get more ridiculous…

“"One of our demands is NON-NEGOTIABLE: President Obama must be removed from office for crimes against the United States and all unconstitutional executive orders nullified. How that is accomplished legally is for the legal and constitutional experts to determine."

People are getting pretty upset with their government (both parties) in the US. This protest sounds like it is going to cost a small fortune in diesel.

A week has passed and you'd think any sort of agreement would be reached by now.

I'd like to know what everybody thinks about the two incidents that took place outside the Capitol last week. Both victims were said to be mentally ill, therefore ruling out any possible political motive behind their actions.

But two suicidal incidents outside the Capitol within the first week of shutdown? Any thoughts, people?

lukereg

They have not affected me in the slightest and the only connection is that they both happened in America at the same time as something else happened in America and things happen in America all the time, like the rest of the world.

Miriam Carey wasn't interested in politics, and  Aaron Alexis was a liberal Obama supporter. I don't know if that has anything to do with the case or not.

There are about 100 homicides in DC per year (http://mpdc.dc.gov/sites/default/files/ … 2_AR_1.pdf). There are even more in Chicago, Detroit, and other large cities. I don't think the shutdown has anything to do with it. It's always sad when someone needlessly dies.

I'm aware of that. But since the two incidents happened close to the White House, it got me wonder. Or it wasn't actually that close?

jakejas

You are correct. They were pretty close.

Google says 3.6 miles if you are driving.
